Rank School Record
1 Marcus Flower Mound, TX 0-0-0
Nine starters return from last year's region semifinalist that took out the nation's No. 1 team in the playoffs leaves Marcus with high expectations in 2017. Missouri commit Payton Bauman, Alabama commit Riley Mattingly and Baylor commit Taylor Moon highlight the returning players.
2 Southlake Carroll Southlake, TX 0-0-0
Texas A&M commit Alexandria Griffin, who scored 49 goals last season, highlights the projected returners for a team that spent part of the season at No. 1 in 2016. Also expected back is Texas Tech commit Brittany Martin. Carroll, Marcus and No. 3 Santa Margarita will participate in the National Elite Prep Showcase in Texas in early January.
3 Santa Margarita Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 0-0-0
Santa Margarita won the CIF Southern California regional title last year, putting the team among the nation's elite. This year, the team will need a stronger showing at the National Elite Prep Showcase in Texas in order to stay in the national title hunt. The Eagles went 2-2 against Texas team last year. Notre Dame commit Chloe Boice highlights the returning starters.
4 St. Thomas Aquinas Fort Lauderdale, FL 0-0-0
Florida State-bound Bella Dorosy is back for her senior season, and as usual, St. Thomas Aquinas figures to be in the Class 4A state title mix. The Raiders compete in the same playoff classification as Viera, the two-time defending state champion. This year, Aquinas and American Heritage are not scheduled to play, which opens the door for both to go undefeated with very few obstacles.
5 St. Johns Country Day Orange Park, FL 0-0-0
On paper, St. Johns Country Day has one of the most talented teams in the nation. The schedule, however poses very little in the way of competition. Anything less than an undefeated regular season would be a surprise for a team that features LSU commit Abbey Newton, Texas Christian commit Payton Crews, Florida State commit Kirsten Pavlisko, Florida Atlantic commit Cassidy Wasdin and Troy commit Alisa Detlefsen.
6 Klein Klein, TX 0-0-0
Auburn commit Alyssa Malonson, the district MVP in 2016, highlights a lineup that has eight projected returning starters from last year's 22-1-2 team.
7 American Heritage-Plantation Plantation, FL 0-0-0
American Heritage brings back 22 of 24 players from last year's 22-1 state title-winning team. Jadia Scott anchors the defense, which has been stout in recent years.
8 Tesoro Las Flores, CA 0-0-0
Allison Cook and Skylar Smith highlight the projected returners for a Tesoro team that got hot in the postseason last year. Cook and Smith were second-team All-Orange County performers.
9 Aliso Niguel Aliso Viejo, CA 0-0-0
Aliso Niguel is one of three SIMA FAB 50 Top 10 teams from Orange County, joining Santa Margarita and Tesoro. The Wolverines should be led by Rice commit Remy Mathews.
10 Torrey Pines San Diego, CA 0-0-0
Torrey Pines graduated a pair of NCAA Division I-bound All-San Diego Section performers from last year's squad, but what returns might be even more special. The Falcons, runners up to Santa Margarita in the region championships, return its top five goal scorers, making it the San Diego favorite.
11 Ursuline Academy Dallas, TX 0-0-0
Ursuline regained its form as the Queen of TAPPS, winning last year's championship. The Bears again are favored in what appears to be another Ursuline-Nolan-Bishop Lynch battle for the top spot.
12 Mater Dei Santa Ana, CA 0-0-0
Haley Hopkins coming off an 18-goal season last year, is the top honoree returning from last year's Trinity League champs.
13 Harvard-Westlake Studio City, CA 0-0-0
Harvard-Westlake struggled in Texas, but otherwise were among the best teams in California last season. With several key underclassmen returning, the Wolverines figure to be in the section title running this year.
14 Montverde Academy Montverde, FL 0-0-0
With players committed to Wake Forest and The Citadel, Montverde Academy figures to be in the running for a SIMA FAB 50 Top 10 ranking. The team has an early clash with Viera, which could end the No. 1 aspirations for whichever team loses.
15 Viera Melbourne, FL 0-0-0
Viera is the reigning SIMA FAB 50 national champion, and could find itself back in the running again this year. Severn underclassmen started for the Hawks last year, including LSU commit Sydney Lau, a goalkeeper.
16 San Ramon Valley Danville, CA 0-0-0
The East Bay Athletic League is one of the nation's strongest from top to bottom, and defending section champ get the early preseason nod of rivals Monte Vista and Carondelet. Rachel Murphy, who tied for team lead in goals, is the top projected returner.
17 Highland Park University Park, TX 0-0-0
Highland Park is the type of team that could make major leaps in the rankings as others falter. Penn State commit Rachel Wasserman highlights the projected returning players for a team that has made back-to-back state final appearances.
18 Monte Vista Danville, CA 0-0-0
Monte Vista returns its leading scorer from last year, but this is a low-scoring program that relies on defense. Expect a lot of one-goal decisions again this season.
19 Cathedral Catholic San Diego, CA 0-0-0
Cathedral Catholic was hit hard by graduation, losing players to Duke, UCLA, Santa Clara and Arizona for starters. Still, the Dons have been able to reload and remain highly competitive in both the San Diego Section and Southern California.
20 Byron Nelson Trophy Club, TX 0-0-0
Byron Nelson had an unlucky draw, losing to Flower Mound in the opening round of postseason play last year, ending the team's stay at FAB 50 No. 1. Flower Mound went on to win the Texas 6A crown. The Bobcats, coming off a 21-2 season, are expected to be a district frontrunner again in 2017.
21 Oviedo Oviedo, FL 0-0-0
Oviedo, the defending Class 5A state champs, has become a perennial title challenger in Florida, where most of the top teams compete in different classifications. The Lions are expected to be the preseason top-ranked team in the Orlando area.
22 Carondelet Concord, CA 0-0-0
Carondelet's loss in the NCS final to San Ramon ended an undefeated season and likely a SIMA FAB 50 national title. In fact, it's the second time in recent years that undefeated EBAL teams lost to league rivals in the section final.
23 Pearl City Pearl City, HI 0-0-0
Pearl City, after winning the state title, had five of the 11 first-team all-state selections last year, and four of them were underclassmen leaving the Chargers the clear preseason favorite. Sunshine Fontes and Daelenn Tokunaga return after combining to score 55 goals last year.
24 San Clemente San Clemente, CA 0-0-0
Lauren Brzykcy, a second-team All-Orange County performer last year, is the top projected returner for a San Clemente team that is traditionally among the best in the nation. Even a recent head coaching change has not altered expectations for this program.
25 Chaminade West Hills, CA 0-0-0
With four of its top six scorers returning, Chaminade figures to challenge Harvard-Westlake for league and section honors.
