Rank School Record
1 JSerra San Juan Capistrano, CA 0-0-0
With a starting lineup that features three UCLA commits, two Santa Clara commits and a Stanford commit, JSerra is clearly in a league of its own in this new era of high school soccer that will be contested without most of the players in the Girls Development Academy. What's even scarier for opponents -- all of those commitments are underclassmen, and there are two more UCLA-bound players who are sitting out this season after transferring into JSerra. Simply put, for as good as JSerra could be this year, the Lions might be even better in 2018-19 as the team does not start a single senior.
2 Highland Park University Park, TX 0-0-0
Highland Park was last year's FAB 50 No. 1 team, and the squad could be in the running again if all the key players return. The list of star underclassmen at Highland Park includes Penn State commit Rachel Wasserman, Texas commit Presley Echols, Texas Tech commit Sierra Jones and Vanderbilt commit Sarah O'Neal.
3 St. Johns Country Day Orange Park, FL 0-0-0
St. Johns Country Day returns nine starters from last year's 25-0 team led by LSU commit Abbey Newton, Florida State commit Kirsten Pavlisko and TCU commit Payton Crews. The big test during the season comes in mid-December as the team hosts a tournament with FAB 50-ranked Montverde Academy and Bolles School. SJCD is riding a 44-match win streak and a 57-match undefeated streak.
4 Oviedo Oviedo, FL 0-0-0
With Florida State commit Kaitlyn Zipay and Vanderbilt commit Madi Allen returning, Oviedo figures to be a large school state title contender again this year.
5 Marcus Flower Mound, TX 0-0-0
With two attacking players committed to Baylor and one headed to Alabama, this could be Marcus' year in a perennially strong Texas 6A group. However, it remains to be seen how the new GDA will affect programs such as Marcus this winter.
6 Carondelet Concord, CA 0-0-0
Early word is NorCal high school programs will not be overly affected by GDA defections. If that's the case, Carondelet again should be a section title contender with key players bound for USC and California highlighting the roster.
7 Keller Keller, TX 0-0-0
Keller graduated its dynamic 1-2 offensive punch, but five projected All-District first-team performers should keep the Indians in the hun in 2018.
8 The Woodlands The Woodlands, TX 0-0-0
If The Woodlands does not get stung by GDA defections, the Highlanders could be a serious Class 6A title contender in 2018. The lineup could feature commits to Duke and Oklahoma.
9 Torrey Pines San Diego, CA 0-0-0
San Diego has shown well in recent years in the CIF Southern California Regionals, and Torrey Pines gets the early nod from coaches. Underclassmen were first and second in goals scored for this 20-win team, and the youngsters accounted for 60 percent of the team's goals.
10 Monte Vista Danville, CA 0-0-0
Led by a Michigan commit, Monte Vista will be among the favorites in the East Bay Athletic League, one of the nation's most competitive girls soccer conferences.
11 Cinco Ranch Katy, TX 0-0-0
With the reigning district MVP highlighting the list of possible returners, Cinco Ranch should challenge The Woodlands for the top spot in the Greater Houston area.
12 Davis Davis, CA 0-0-0
Davis rolled right into winter play and dominated. This year, the team is ramping up the schedule and opening with Carondelet, which will serve as a key benchmark between the North Coast and Sac-Joaquin sections.
13 Ursuline Academy Dallas, TX 0-0-0
Ursuline Academy returned to its usual place atop the TAPPS standings last year, and its depth will be key in 2017-18. The Bears remain the TAPPS favorite and its showing at the National Elite Prep Showcase in early January will sort out its national standing.
14 Southlake Carroll Southlake, TX 0-0-0
Southlake Carroll projects four first-team all-district returners from a team that spent most of the year in the national title chase.
15 Hendrickson Pflugerville, TX 0-0-0
Hendrickson took advantage of an opportunity when all the favorites were upset last year to claim the program's first state title. The Hawks appear to be less affected by Academy defections and could remain a top tier program in 2018.
16 St. Thomas Aquinas Fort Lauderdale, FL 0-0-0
The Dorosys have finally graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas, but there is no shortage of talent in this program. Villanova commit Chloe O'Neill figures to be one of the region's top players.
17 San Marcos San Marcos, CA 0-0-0
Next to Torrey Pines, San Marcos is touted by coaches as a title contender in San Diego. Last year's 22-2-4 team netted 68 goals and all but five came from underclassmen.
18 Boca Raton Boca Raton, FL 0-0-0
High-scoring Boca Raton made a run at a state title last year, but came up short to Oviedo. With the key offensive players back -- Dayana Martin and Kendra Cashion, the Bobcats again look to be a contender. Martin and Cashion combined for 73 goals and 36 assists last season.
19 American Heritage-Plantation Plantation, FL 0-0-0
With the return of a pair of forwards who combined for 47 goals, American Heritage should have no trouble finding the net. But can this team be as defensively strong as recent teams is the question after graduating most of its defensive unit.
20 Montverde Academy Montverde, FL 0-0-0
Led by Wake Forest commit Shayla Smart, along with three other Division I-bound players, Montverde Academy figures to be a state title challenger in 2018. A key rankings match occurs Dec. 15 when the Eagles travel to No. 3 St. Johns Country Day.
21 Allen Allen, TX 0-0-0
Allen has four first-team all-district players projected to return in 2018, and that should be enough to turn the Eagles into a serious contender.
22 Coppell Coppell, TX 0-0-0
Despite significant graduation from a team that was in the national No. 1 running last year, Coppell figures to remain a state and national factor. The team projects four returners who garnered first-team all-district honors a year ago.
23 Corona del Mar Newport Beach, CA 0-0-0
With Arizona commit Meagan Chelf and Eastern Washington commit Alyssa McKenzie, Corona del Mar appears to be a solid leader in traditionally strong Orange County. Corona del Mar was not too deeply impacted by the Girls Development Academy.
24 Kingwood Kingwood, TX 0-0-0
Kingwood returns three all-district honorees from last year's squad and should be the District 21-6A favorite in 2018.
25 Sachse Sachse, TX 0-0-0
Sachse started and ended its season with losses in 2017, but everything in between was wins. If all the key players return, the Mustangs could find themselves in the Top 10 quite quickly. Sachse will be competing at the National Elite Prep Showcase, where a perfect showing usually means a lofty national ranking to enter the league portion of the season.
