Armstrong State Soccer Announces 2016 Class

February 9, 2016

Armstrong State University head coach Eric Faulconer has announced his recruiting class for the 2016 season. The class of seven freshmen and two transfers have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Pirates this fall.

The nine incoming players are: 5-4 goalkeeper Fatima DiModica (Naples, Fla.); 5-7 defender/forward Erin Ferris (Atlanta, Ga.); 5-8 defender Mallary Hedden (Cartersville, Ga.); 5-4 forward/midfielder Ashley Lewis (Lawrenceville, Ga.); 5-4 midfielder Miranda Lucas (Saint Cloud, Fla.); 5-5 midfielder/defender Haleigh Meuninck (Fayetteville, Ga.); 5-5 midfielder Renae Moken (Somerdale, N.J.); 5-7 goalkeeper Michelle Watson (Marietta, Ga.) and 5-9 defender/forward Lauren Yoss (Peachtree City, Ga.).

"Over the last several years we have continued to recruit at a very high level," head coach Eric Faulconer said. "We have added nine players to an already deep roster, which should provide for the most competitive environment we have had here at Armstrong - which is saying a lot. We graduated four very experienced players, but we return almost our entire squad from 2015.

"Since winning the PBC in 2012, we have competed for the conference championship the last three seasons, but ultimately have fallen short. We want to get back to the top of the conference and make deep runs in the national tournament. Our goal remains to win a national title. We have been taking steps in that direction, but now is the time to ascend back to the top in our conference, region and the nation. I feel strongly that this class will continue to move us in that direction," Faulconer said. "I want to thank my assistant coach Kayley Ralton for the work she has done with this class. I want to thank our players, who continue to be great ambassadors of this university. Finally, I want to thank our administration, faculty and staff for taking the time to get to know each of the young ladies we bring on campus."

Armstrong will return 20 players, including nine starters, for 2016. Eighteen returners have started games during their playing careers. 40 of the 46 goals scored in 2015 return for the 2016 season.

The 2015 team finished 13‐5‐3 on the season, finishing third in the Peach Belt Conference. Armstrong advanced to the second round of the NCAA National Championships, beating Wingate 5-0 in the first round. The Pirates return NSCAA All‐Region selections in junior forward Jenny Allen and junior midfielder/defender Oliva DeJong. The Pirates also return 2015 PBC All‐Conference selection junior defender Michelle Allen and 2014 PBC All Conference team member Sarah Olin
