Centre and Sewanee play to 1-1 tie in women's soccer
Two goals, one for each team, were scored within 32 seconds of each other in the second half but neither team could find the back of the net again as the Centre College women's soccer team played Sewanee-University of the South to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Friday, Oct. 14 in Sewanee, Tenn.
With the tie, the Colonels move to 8-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), while Sewanee is now 4-8-2 overall and also 2-2-1 in league play.
Centre controlled the first half having out-shot the Tigers 7-1 with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks, but neither team was able to score.
At the 47:12 mark in the second half, Sewanee's Faith Spencer scored off an assist from Kabler Calhoun for a 1-0 lead.
That lead was short-lived as Centre's Chloe Toohey (Louisville, Ky.) tied the match 32 second later with her first goal of the season.
Neither team was able to score the remainder of the second half or either overtime periods and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The two teams finished with 14 shots apiece, while the Colonels held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) stopped five of the six shots she faced on the evening playing all 110:00.
