Giants Edge Cyclones 2-1 In Overtime
LAPLUME, Pa. – Brittany Sugalski's goal in the 109th minute handed Keystone a 2-1 victory over the Centenary College women's soccer team in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cyclones, who fell in overtime for the first time since 2011, dropped to 3-2-1 in league play, while the Giants took over sole possession of second place, improving their conference mark to 4-2-1. Centenary is one of five CSAC with three conference victories.
Centenary fell behind in the 40th minute when Sugalski sent a lead pass to Samantha Littleford, who found the back of the net.
Junior midfielder Becky Camp (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) brought the Cyclones even midway through the second half. She took a shot from near the sideline that deflected off the post and crossed the goal line for her second score of the fall.
Sugalski's game-winning goal came with just 1:15 left in overtime as she forced a turnover and lofted a shot over junior goalkeeper Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) to give the Giants the win.
Centenary lost despite outshooting Keystone 16-5. Giants' goalkeeper Katelyn Coon kept the Cyclones at bay for most of the afternoon, making 14 saves. Camp and seniors Kristen Brown (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson) and Amira Guerrero (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) all recorded four shots on goal, while Williams posted three saves in net for CC.
The Cyclones host Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm on the Hackettstown High School grass field.
