MLS Academy alumni weekly roundup: Oct. 23

Graduates of MLS Academies are everywhere in the college ranks nowadays, as many are aiming to continue developing with hopes of one day landing a homegrown contract.

For now, of course, the focus is on their college teams, as the season continues to move along and the chase for the College Cup inches along. 

Here’s a look at how a selection of MLS Academy alumni fared in Division I action over the past week.

Chicago Fire 

Junior GK Charlie Lyon started, played 90 minutes and made seven saves in Marquette’s 1-0 win over Providence on Oct. 19.

Senior F Harrison Shipp started, played 90 minutes and had an assist in Notre Dame’s 2-1 win over NC State on Oct. 19.

Junior F Tyler Engel started, played 90 minutes and had an assist in North Carolina’s 1-0 win over Syracuse on Oct. 18. He also started and played 70 minutes in a 1-0 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 22.

Sophomore F Joey Calistri started and played 99 minutes in Northwestern’s 0-0 tie against Ohio State on Oct. 20.

Senior MF Chris Ritter started and played 110 minutes in Northwestern’s 0-0 tie against Ohio State on Oct. 20.

Freshman MF Marcus Epps came off the bench and played 55 minutes in South Florida’s 0-0 tie against Rutgers on Oct. 19.

Chivas USA

Sophomore D Brendan Hines-Ike started and played 99 minutes in Creighton’s 1-0 loss against Villanova on Oct. 19. 

Freshman GK Jake McGuire started, played 90 minutes and made five saves in Tulsa’s 2-1 loss against UAB on Oct. 19.

Colorado Rapids

Freshman MF Ricardo Perez came off the bench and played 60 minutes in Creighton’s 1-0 loss against Villanova on Oct. 19.

Senior D Patrick Slogic started and played 110 minutes in Cornell’s 0-0 tie against Yale on Oct. 19.

Junior F James Rogers started, played 58 minutes and had an assist in New Mexico’s 2-0 win against Florida Atlantic on Oct. 19.

Columbus Crew

Sophomore D Andrew Souders started and played 108 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 win over Buffalo on Oct. 18.

Senior MF Eric Stevenson started and played 108 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 win over Buffalo on Oct. 18.

Senior D Sage Gardner started and played 110 minutes in Ohio State’s 0-0 tie against Northwestern on Oct. 20.

Junior D Nat Eggleston started and played 79 minutes in Duke’s 1-0 win over Boston College on Oct. 18. He also started and played 78 minutes in a 3-0 win over Elon on Oct. 22.

Freshman D Michael Sauers started, played 90 minutes and scored a goal in Maryland’s 4-3 loss against Wake Forest on Oct. 19. He also started and played 73 minutes in a 1-0 win over Drexel on Oct. 22.

Freshman D Patrick Foss started and played 61 minutes in Virginia’s 1-1 tie with Virginia Tech on Oct. 18.

Sophomore D Jalen Robinson started and played 90 minutes in Wake Forest’s 4-3 win over Maryland on Oct. 19. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 4-0 win over Davidson on Oct. 22.

Freshman D Lars Eckenrode started and played 61 minutes in Michigan’s 2-1 win over Wisconsin on Oct. 20. 

Freshman D Rafael Fagundo started, played 61 minutes and tallied his first collegiate assist for Wake Forest against Davidson on Oct 22.

Junior D Boyd Okwuonu started and played 90 minutes in North Carolina’s 1-0 win over Syracuse on Oct. 18. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 22.

Sophomore D Mikey Ambrose started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 4-3 loss against Wake Forest on Oct. 19. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Drexel on Oct. 22.

Redshirt freshman D Nicholas Rochowski started and played 46 minutes in New Mexico’s 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic on Oct. 19.

Freshman MF Fernando Laverde started and played 90 minutes in UCF’s 0-0 draw against SMU on Oct. 19.

Junior D Uchenna Uzo started and played 90 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 3-1 win over Winthrop on Oct. 16. He also started and played in a 1-0 win over Radford on Oct. 20. 

Sophomore D Bradley Bourgeois started and played 90 minutes in Tulsa’s 2-1 loss against UAB on Oct. 19.

Sophomore D Grady Howe came off the bench and played 36 minutes in UCLA’s 1-1 tie against Oregon State on Oct. 18. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 2-2 tie against Washington on Oct. 21.

Freshman GK Josh McNeely started, played 109 minutes and made two saves in UC Santa Barbara’s 3-2 win over UC Davis on Oct. 19. 

Freshman D Nathan Smith started and played 98 minutes in UCLA’s 1-1 tie against Oregon State on Oct. 18. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 2-2 tie against Washington on Oct. 21.
