MLS Academy alumni weekly roundup: Oct. 2

Graduates of MLS Academies are everywhere in the college ranks nowadays, as many are aiming to continue developing with hopes of one day landing a homegrown contract.

For now, of course, the focus is on their college teams, as the season continues to move along and the chase for the College Cup inches closer to its conclusion. 

Here’s a look at how a selection of MLS Academy alumni fared in Division I action over the past week:

Chicago Fire 

Junior GK Charlie Lyon started, played 90 minutes and made one save in Marquette’s 1-0 win over Xavier on Sept. 28.

Freshman MF Louis Bennett II started and played 78 minutes in Marquette’s 1-0 win over Xavier on Sept. 28.

Junior MF Brady Wahl started and played 90 minutes in Marquette’s 1-0 win over Xavier on Sept. 28.

Senior F Harrison Shipp started, played 90 minutes and scored a goal in Notre Dame’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sept. 27.

Junior F Tyler Engel came off the bench and played 48 minutes in North Carolina’s 1-1 draw against Wake Forest on Sept. 28. 

Sophomore F Joey Calistri started, played 74 minutes and scored a goal in Northwestern’s 2-0 win over Michigan on Sept. 28.

Senior MF Chris Ritter started and played 90 minutes in Northwestern’s 2-0 win over Michigan on Sept. 28.

Freshman MF Marcus Epps started and played 85 minutes in South Florida’s 1-1 draw with Connecticut on Sept. 27. 

Chivas USA

Sophomore D Brendan Hines-Ike started and played 110 minutes in Creighton’s 0-0 draw with Georgetown on Sept. 28.

Freshman GK Jake McGuire started, played 90 minutes and made six saves in Tulsa’s 2-1 loss against Old Dominion on Sept. 28. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Maryland on Oct. 1.

Colorado Rapids

Freshman MF Ricardo Perez came off the bench and played 66 minutes in Creighton’s 0-0 draw with Georgetown on Sept. 28.

Senior D Patrick Slogic started, played 90 minutes and scored a goal in Cornell’s 1-0 win over Buffalo on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss against Niagara on Sept. 29.

Junior F James Rogers started and played 54 minutes in New Mexico’s 2-1 loss against UC Davis on Sept. 26. He also started and played 42 minutes in a 3-1 win over Marshall on Sept. 30. 

Columbus Crew

Freshman D Alex Crognale started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Tulsa on Oct. 1.

Sophomore D Andrew Souders started and played 90 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 win over West Virginia on Sept. 29. 

Senior MF Eric Stevenson started, played 90 minutes and had an assist in Akron’s 1-0 win over West Virginia on Sept. 29.

D.C. United

Junior D Nat Eggleston started and played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 1.

Freshman D Michael Sauers started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 27. He also started and played 45 minutes in a 2-1 win over Tulsa on Oct. 1.

Freshman MF Jimmy Doll came off the bench and played 44 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. 

Freshman D Patrick Foss started and played 90 minutes in Virginia’s 2-0 win over Syracuse on Sept. 28.He also started and played 107 minutes in a 2-1 win over VCU on Oct. 1.

Junior MF Tyler Rudy started and played 90 minutes in Georgetown’s 0-0 draw against Creighton on Sept. 28. He also played in a 1-0 win over American on Oct. 1.

Freshman MF Ian Harkes started and played 110 minutes in Wake Forest’s 1-1 draw against North Carolina on Sept. 28. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Charlotte on Oct. 1.

Sophomore D Jalen Robinson started, played 110 minutes and scored a goal in Wake Forest’s 1-1 draw against North Carolina on Sept. 28. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Charlotte on Oct. 1.

Freshman D Lars Eckenrode started and played 90 minutes in Michigan’s 2-0 loss against Northwestern on Sept. 28.

FC Dallas

Junior D Boyd Okwuonu started and played 110 minutes in North Carolina’s 1-1 draw against Wake Forest on Sept. 28.

Sophomore D Mikey Ambrose started, played 90 minutes and had an assist in Maryland’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Tulsa on Oct. 1.

Redshirt freshman D Nicholas Rochowski started and played 47 minutes in New Mexico’s 2-1 loss against UC Davis on Sept. 26. He also came off the bench and played 32 minutes in a 3-1 win over Marshall on Sept. 30.

Freshman MF Fernando Laverde started and played 90 minutes in UCF’s 2-1 win over Cincinnati on Sept. 28. 

Junior D Jack Coleman started, played 88 minutes and scored a goal in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He also started and played 82 minutes in a 2-1 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 1.

Freshman F Bobby Edet started and played 95 minutes in Furman’s 1-0 win over James Madison on Sept. 27. He also played 55 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Appalachian State on Sept. 29.

Freshman MF Marco Ortiz started and played 50 minutes in Furman’s 1-0 win over James Madison on Sept. 27. He also played 51 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Appalachian State on Sept. 29. 

Houston Dynamo

Senior GK Patrick Wall started, played 90 minutes and made three saves in Notre Dame’s 3-1 win over Duke on Sept. 27.

Senior D Sebastien Ibeagha started and played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 1.

Sophomore GK Fernando Pina started and played 90 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 win over West Virginia on Sept. 29.

Junior D Uchenna Uzo started and played 90 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 1-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 28. 

Freshman D Alex Ochoa started and played 87 minutes in West Virginia’s 1-0 loss against Akron on Sept. 29.

Sophomore D Bradley Bourgeois started and played 90 minutes in Tulsa’s 2-1 loss against Old Dominion on Sept. 28. He also started and played in a 2-1 loss against Maryland on Oct. 1.

LA Galaxy

Freshman MF Brian Iloski started and played 62 minutes in UCLA’s 3-0 win over UC Riverside on Sept. 26.

Freshman GK Josh McNeely started, played 95 minutes and made two saves in UC Santa Barbara’s 2-1 loss against Stanford on Sept. 27.

Junior MF David Velasquez started and played 79 minutes in CSU Bakersfield’s 3-0 loss against UC Irvine on Sept. 28. 

Junior MF Lucas Dall’Orso started and played 49 minutes in CSU Bakersfield’s 3-0 loss against UC Irvine on Sept. 28. 

Montreal Impact

Freshman D Kai Morton came off the bench and played three minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 1-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 28. 

New England Revolution

Junior F Cole DeNormandie started and played 63 minutes in Boston College’s 2-1 win over NC State on Sept. 27. 

Freshman MF Dominik Machado started, played 79 minutes and scored a goal in Providence’s 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Sept. 27.

Junior MF Fabio Machado came off the bench and played 27 minutes and score two goals in Providence’s 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Sept. 27.

New York Red Bulls 

Junior MF Sean Davis started and played 90 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 1.

Freshman F Ethan Decker started and played 81 minutes in Connecticut’s 1-1 draw against South Florida on Sept. 27.

Sophomore F Brandon Allen started and played 96 minutes in Georgetown’s 0-0 draw with Creighton on Sept. 28. He also played in a 1-0 win over American on Oct. 1.

Junior MF Dan Metzger started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 27. 

Freshman MF Adam Najem came off the bench and played 17 minutes in Akron’s 1-0 win over West Virginia on Sept. 29.

Senior MF David Najem started, played 77 minutes and had an assist in Columbia’s 3-0 win over LIU Brooklyn(m) on Sept. 25. He also played 62 minutes in a 2-0 win over Fordham on Sept. 29. 

Freshman MF Alex Muyl started and played 77 minutes in Georgetown’s 0-0 draw with Creighton on Sept. 28. He also played in a 1-0 win over American on Oct. 1.

Philadelphia Union 

Freshman GK Zack Steffen started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 27. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Tulsa on Oct. 1.

Sophomore D Keegan Rosenberry started and played 110 minutes in Georgetown’s 0-0 draw with Creighton on Sept. 28. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over American on Oct. 1.

Freshman F Tommy Thompson started, scored a goal and had an assist in Indiana’s 3-2 loss against Butler on Sept. 25. He also started and played 86 minutes in Indiana’s 2-0 win over Ohio State on Sept. 29.

Seattle Sounders FC

Junior F Nick Palodichuk started and played 58 minutes in Duke’s 3-1 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He also came off the bench and played 33 minutes in a 2-1 loss against UNC Wilmington on Oct. 1.

Junior F Darwin Jones started, played 82 minutes and scored a goal in Washington’s 2-1 win over SMU on Sept. 27.
