MLS Academy alumni weekly roundup: Oct. 9

Graduates of MLS Academies are everywhere in the college ranks nowadays, as many are aiming to continue developing with hopes of one day landing a homegrown contract.

For now, of course, the focus is on their college teams, as the season continues to move along and the chase for the College Cup inches along.

Here’s a look at how a selection of MLS Academy alumni fared in Division I action over the past week:

Chicago Fire

Junior GK Charlie Lyon started and played 90 minutes in Marquette’s 1-0 loss against Wisconsin on Oct. 2. He also started, played 95 minutes and made seven saves in a 1-0 win over Villanova on Oct. 5.

Freshman MF Louis Bennett II started and played 86 minutes in Marquette’s 1-0 loss against Wisconsin on Oct. 2. He also started, played 61 minutes and had an assist in a 1-0 win over Villanova on Oct. 5. 

Junior MF Brady Wahl started and played 86 minutes in Marquette’s 1-0 loss against Wisconsin on Oct. 2. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Villanova on Oct. 5. 

Senior F Harrison Shipp started, played 90 minutes and had two assists in Notre Dame’s 2-0 win over Indiana on Oct. 2. He also played 92 minutes and scored two goals in a 2-1 win over Clemson on Oct. 5, and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Maryland on Oct. 8.

Junior F Tyler Engel came off the bench and played 67 minutes in North Carolina’s 0-0 draw against Duke on Oct. 4. He also came off the bench and played 50 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Clemson on Oct. 8.

Sophomore F Joey Calistri started, played 88 minutes and scored two goals in Northwestern’s 3-2 loss against Bradley on Oct. 2. He also started and played 103 minutes in a 3-2 loss against Michigan State on Oct. 6. 

Senior MF Chris Ritter started, played 98 minutes and added an assist in Northwestern’s 3-2 loss against Bradley on Oct. 2. He also started, played 109 minutes, scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-2 loss against Michigan State on Oct. 6.

Freshman MF Marcus Epps started and played 53 minutes in South Florida’s 2-0 loss against Memphis on Oct. 5.

Chivas USA

Sophomore D Brendan Hines-Ike started and played 90 minutes in Creighton’s 1-0 loss against Saint Louis on Oct. 2. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Xavier on Oct. 5. 

Freshman GK Jake McGuire started, played 90 minutes and made one save in Tulsa’s 2-1 win over South Carolina on Oct. 6.

Colorado Rapids

Freshman MF Ricardo Perez started and played 73 minutes in Creighton’s 1-0 loss against Saint Louis on Oct. 2. He also started and played 82 minutes in a 2-0 win over Xavier on Oct. 5.

Senior D Patrick Slogic started and played 90 minutes in Cornell's 1-0 loss against Penn on Oct. 5. 

Junior F James Rogers started and played 95 minutes in New Mexico’s 0-0 draw against Charlotte on Oct. 4.

Columbus Crew

Freshman D Alex Crognale started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-1 win over Boston College on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Oct. 8.

Sophomore D Andrew Souders started and played 90 minutes in Akron’s 2-0 loss against Hartwick on Oct. 5.

Senior MF Eric Stevenson started and played 90 minutes and had an assist in Akron’s 2-0 loss against Hartwick on Oct. 5.

D.C. United

Junior D Nat Eggleston started and played 110 minutes in Duke’s 0-0 draw against North Carolina on Oct. 4. He also started and played 103 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Virginia on Oct. 8.

Freshman D Michael Sauers started, played 42 minutes and scored a goal in Maryland’s 2-1 win over Boston College on Oct. 4. He also started and played 84 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Oct. 8.

Freshman D Patrick Foss started and played 59 minutes in Virginia’s 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Duke on Oct. 8.

Sophomore F Marcus Salandy Defour started, played 55 minutes and had an assist in Virginia’s 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Oct. 4. He also started and played 105 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Duke on Oct. 8.

Junior MF Tyler Rudy started and played 39 minutes in Georgetown’s 8-0 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 5.

Freshman MF Ian Harkes started and played 90 minutes in Wake Forest’s 3-0 win over Virginia Tech on Oct. 4. He also started, played 110 minutes and had an assist in a 2-2 draw against NC State on Oct. 8.

Sophomore D Jalen Robinson started and played 90 minutes in Wake Forest’s 3-0 win over Virginia Tech on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 2-2 draw against NC State on Oct. 8.

Freshman D Lars Eckenrode started and played 90 minutes in Michigan’s 3-1 win over Western Michigan on Oct. 2. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Ohio State on Oct. 6.

Junior MF Mikias Eticha came off the bench and played 55 minutes in Maryland’s 2-1 win over Boston College on Oct. 4. He also came off the bench and played 62 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Oct. 8.

FC Dallas

Junior D Boyd Okwuonu started and played 110 minutes in North Carolina’s 0-0 draw against Duke on Oct. 4. He also started and played 92 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Clemson on Oct. 8.

Sophomore D Mikey Ambrose started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-1 win over Boston College on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Oct. 8.

Redshirt freshman D Nicholas Rochowski started and played 22 minutes in New Mexico’s 0-0 draw against Charlotte on Oct. 4. 

Freshman MF Fernando Laverde started and played 110 minutes in UCF’s 2-2 draw against Connecticut on Oct. 5.

Junior D Jack Coleman started and played 68 minutes in Duke’s 0-0 draw against North Carolina on Oct. 4.

Houston Dynamo 

Senior GK Patrick Wall started, played 90 minutes and made three saves in Notre Dame’s 2-0 win over Indiana on Oct. 2. He also started, played 92 minutes and made two saves in a 2-1 win over Clemson on Oct. 5, and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Maryland on Oct. 8.

Senior D Sebastien Ibeagha started and played 110 minutes in Duke’s 0-0 draw against North Carolina on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Virginia on Oct. 8.

Sophomore GK Fernando Pina started and played 90 minutes in Akron’s 2-0 loss against Hartwick on Oct. 5.

Junior D Uchenna Uzo started and played 104 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 2-1 win over High Point on Oct. 5. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over the College of Charleston on Oct. 8.

Freshman D Alex Ochoa started, played 90 minutes and had an assist in West Virginia’s 4-0 win over Northern Illinois on Oct. 5. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over Stony Brook on Oct. 8.

Sophomore D Bradley Bourgeois started and played 100 minutes in Tulsa’s 2-1 win over South Carolina on Oct. 6.

LA Galaxy

Freshman MF Brian Iloski started, played 72 minutes and scored a goal in UCLA’s 2-1 win over San Diego State on Oct. 5.

Sophomore D Grady Howe started and played 46 minutes in UCLA’s 2-1 win over San Diego State on Oct. 5.

Freshman GK Josh McNeely started, played 90 minutes and made four saves in a 3-0 win over Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 4. He also started, played 90 minutes and made five saves on UC Riverside on Oct. 6.

Junior MF David Velasquez started and played 75 minutes in CSU Bakersfield’s 2-0 loss against UNLV on Oct. 6.

Freshman D Nathan Smith came off the bench and played 45 minutes in UCLA’s 2-1 win over San Diego State on Oct. 5.

Montreal Impact

Freshman D Kai Morton started and played 94 minutes in Coastal Carolina’s 2-1 over High Point on Oct. 5. He also started and played 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over the College of Charleston on Oct. 8.

New England Revolution

Junior F Cole DeNormandie started and played 60 minutes in Boston College’s 2-1 loss against Maryland on Oct. 4. He also came off the bench and played 36 minutes in a 3-2 win over Syracuse on Oct. 8.

Freshman MF Dominik Machado started and played 90 minutes in Providence’s 1-0 win over St. John's on Oct. 5. 

Junior MF Fabio Machado started and played 54 minutes in Providence’s 1-0 win over St. John's on Oct. 5.

New York Red Bulls

Junior MF Sean Davis started and played 110 minutes in Duke’s 0-0 draw against North Carolina on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Virginia on Oct. 8.

Freshman F Ethan Decker started and played 72 minutes in Connecticut’s 2-2 draw against UCF on Oct. 5.

Sophomore F Brandon Allen started, played 49 minutes, scored a goal and had an assist in Georgetown’s 8-0 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 5.

Junior MF Dan Metzger started and played 90 minutes in Maryland’s 2-1 win over Boston College on Oct. 4. He also started and played 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame on Oct. 8.
