Scranton Falls At Kean, 2-0
UNION, N.J. – The University of Scranton women’s soccer team generated a few scoring opportunities on Wednesday evening, but could not break through in a 2-0 loss to Kean University at Alumni Stadium.
The Royals (2-3) outshot Kean, 13-7, but the Cougars (5-1) scored twice in the second half after the teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes. Kean broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 52nd minute, then scored the insurance goal in the 76th minute.
Junior forward Gianna Vitolo (Morris Knolls, N.J./Denville) led Scranton with four shots, and freshman defender Meredith D’Angelo (Hatfield, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) added two.
Scranton had five corners while allowing four for Kean. The Cougars held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Royals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they travel across town to take on Marywood University at 7 p.m.
