Rank School Record
1 St. Benedict's Prep Newark, NJ 0-0-0
With nine returning starters and 18 returning players from last year's SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 team, St. Benedict's was an easy choice to start the season in the top spot. This year's team features Monmouth commit Johnny Antunes and forward Victor Villagomez, who has led the team in goals the past two seasons. St. Benedict's will play 19 regular-season matches against teams from eight states. In addition, 18 of the team's members were part of the CSA Newark U17 US Club Soccer national title-winning team.
2 McDonogh School Owings Mills, MD 0-0-0
McDonogh will be in the SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 chase for the third straight season. This powerhouse program features several players from the Baltimore Celtic club program, which has captured multiple US Youth Soccer national titles the past two years. Some of the projected returners include forwards Tunde Akinlosotu and Nic Brown and defender Michael DeShields, who were all Baltimore Sun All-Met first-team picks last year.
3 Jesuit Carmichael, CA 0-0-0
In what could be Jesuit's last year as a fall soccer program, the Marauders certainly will be among the national elite. Senior Matt Glass has committed to Harvard. The team picked up two former Development Academy players to strengthen a senior-heavy lineup.
4 Haverford School Haverford, PA 0-0-0
With Villanova commits Conor and Shane Bradley and Brown commit Connor Gregory, Haverford School appears to have one of the most talented lineups in the East.
5 Copley Copley, OH 0-0-0
Forward Christopher Brennan nearly carried Copley to a No. 1 ranking last year. Only the team's state final setback to St. Ignatius ended that bid. With Brennan back, Copley could be in the mix for the top spot again this fall.
6 Scotch Plains-Fanwood Scotch Plains, NJ 0-0-0
Defenders Joey Bianco and Jake Longo highlight a cast of 15 returning lettermen for a Scotch Plains team that went 22-4 and finished ranked No. 4 in New Jersey. Junior keeper Sean Murray returns after recording 17 shutouts last fall and allowing only 11 goals in 26 matches. Coach Tom Breznitsky, entering his 41st season, could reach the 700-win mark with a new perfect season. His 40-year record stands at 676-152-54.
7 Chaminade Creve Coeur, MO 0-0-0
Chaminade was in the mix for the fall No. 1 spot until a state final loss to Lee's Summit. This year's team figures to be another state title challenger, led by returning first-team all-state pick Tim Steele.
8 Wheaton Academy West Chicago, IL 0-0-0
Ty Seager, the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year in 2014, highlights a Wheaton Academy lineup that will be a favorite among Illinois' Class AAA. Last year, Seager delivered 39 goals and 15 assists. The Warriors project returning players who combined for 65 goals last season. Wheaton Academy won the AA title last year, but will be AAA this season.
9 Rockhurst Jesuit Kansas City, MO 0-0-0
One opposing coach called Rockhurst the best team he saw all summer, as many of the Midwest states have elaborate summer sessions with varsity teams. The Hawklets had two all-state honorees who are projected returners, keeper Nick Moyer and midfielder Cole McClagan.
10 DeMatha Catholic Hyattsville, MD 0-0-0
Sophomore Justin Gielen, whose older brother is at UMBC, is part of an expected loaded DeMatha team returning from a 15-1-4 season. There is a change at the top as former DeMatha player Matt Brady takes over as head coach.
11 St. Ignatius Cleveland, OH 0-0-0
The Ohio large-school defending state champions were senior-heavy last year, but that hasn't stopped this program from reloading. In addition, the Wildcats have put together an interesting schedule that includes matches against defending New York Catholic champ St. Anthony's, perennial PSAL frontrunner Martin Luther King (N.Y.), Gonzaga (D.C.), in addition to a regular-season clash with Copley.
12 Milwaukee Marquette Milwaukee, WI 0-0-0
Alec Philippe, the lone junior of last year's Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association 11-player all-state team, highlights the projected returners for this perennial power. Marquette, which joined the WIAA in 2000, is coming off its 10th state title in 15 seasons.
13 St. Thomas Aquinas Overland Park, KS 0-0-0
Defender Lucas Bartlett, who has committed to Loyola-Chicago, is the top returning player for this perennial state power. The Saints have won 16 state titles.
14 St. Anthony's Melville, NY 0-0-0
Gone are many of the names that led St. Anthony's to a Catholic state title in 2014, but there is plenty returning to keep this team favored among New York programs. Coach Gene Buonaiuto picked up his 400th career win in the state final victory.
15 Pingry School Martinsville, NJ 0-0-0
If all the pieces return to this high school team, Pingry could prove to be one of the nation's top programs. Midfielder Jack Casey has committed to Notre Dame. Pingry, with legendary coach Miller Bugliari, will travel to St. Louis for the Gateway City Soccer Classic the first weekend in October.
16 Webster Groves Webster Groves, MO 0-0-0
With three players who made all-state mention projected to return from last year's 24-5-1 state title-winning team, Webster Groves is again favored among the best in St. Louis.
17 Shipley School Bryn Mawr, PA 0-0-0
With midfielder Wyatt Page (six of his 13 assists were game winners in 2014) and defender Josh Liss (from a team with 16 shutouts) return to highlight the lineup for this up-and-coming program. Shipley pinned a loss on Haverford School last year, but an early exit in the state playoffs ended a bid for a high ranking. Shipley faces Haverford in early September and perennial prep power South Kent School (Conn.) in late October.
18 Salesianum Wilmington, DE 0-0-0
Sallies played second fiddle in Delaware for most of last season until when it mattered most -- avenging a rare instate loss and winning the state title. With most of its returners back, Salesianum will be a favorite in Delaware, but matches in Kentucky against perennial favorites Trinity and St. Xavier and a clash with preseason No. 1 St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.) will give this program a platform to move up in the rankings.
19 Broomfield Broomfield, CO 0-0-0
Midfielder Porter Milner, the team's leading scorer, and defender Tyler Duggan -- both received Class 4A all-state first-team honors in 2014 -- highlight the projected returners from the large school defending state champions.
20 Center Grove Greenwood, IN 0-0-0
Center Grove went 20-2 last season and are projected to return Hayden Gorall, Nathan Silva and Kyle Parry, who all received all-district honors last year. The team brings back 13 players from a state semifinalist squad in 2014.
21 Martin Luther King Manhattan, NY 0-0-0
It was a rare year in New York City as MLK did not play for a championship in 2014. However, this team figures to be a factor in the PSAL race in 2015 and a match with nationally ranked St. Ignatius (Ohio) will help sort of its national standing.
22 Mason Mason, MI 0-0-0
Leutrim Shefkiu highlights a solid cast of returners for this Michigan program. Seldom do Michigan Division 2 teams crack the Top 25, but this year could be an exception. Mason brings back three all-state performers from last year's 19-2-2 squad.
23 Delbarton School Morristown, NJ 0-0-0
Delbarton was the top team in the Greater New York region last year, even pinning a defeat on New York Catholic champ St. Anthony's. However, this year's team will have to prove itself all over following a strong graduating class.
24 Granite Bay Granite Bay, CA 0-0-0
Jesuit, Granite Bay and Davis are the early frontrunners in a small fall California lineup. Granite Bay's section, along with one other, are the last holdouts -- still playing fall soccer. However, this might be the final year before the section opts to move soccer to the winter season, along with much of the state.
25 Canton Canton, MI 0-0-0
Canton went undefeated last season and finished ranked among the national Top 5. The team returns only four starters, but plenty of firepower. Hunter Olson, a first-team all-state pick, had 16 goals last year, while fellow returnees Sam Deloy and Mathew Causley added 12 goals each.
