Siena Women's Soccer Head Coach Steve Karbowski has announced the addition of Lauren Mackay as an assistant coach. The 2018 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II National Coach of the Year, the native of nearby Stillwater, New York joins the Saints after spending the past four seasons as the head coach at Division III SUNY Delhi.
 
"I'm excited to have Lauren join the staff, and look forward to working with her," said Karbowski. "Lauren possesses a great amount of collegiate coaching experience, and I was really impressed with her process and development of the women's soccer program at SUNY Delhi. She has really demonstrated the work ethic, commitment, and detail required to create a successful program. Her qualities will be a welcomed addition."
 
Mackay brings eight years of collegiate coaching experience with her to Loudonville, plus six more locally at the high school level. She most recently oversaw SUNY Delhi's successful transition to the NCAA Division III level, guiding the Broncos to a 23-22-2 record during her tenure as head coach.
 
"I am grateful for this opportunity to join a successful program here at Siena," noted Mackay. "I am excited to be back in the area, while continuing to grow in my coaching career. After a great experience as a head coach at the Division III level, I am looking forward to working with and learning from Steve. I look forward to being a part of the campus community, and I'm excited to begin working with our student athletes as we build towards our goal of winning championships."
 
Mackay developed eight USCAA All-Americans during her time at SUNY Delhi. She piloted the program to a 9-7-2 overall record including a 5-2-1 league mark during the Broncos' most recent season in 2019, leading SUNY Delhi to the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals in their first season in the league.
 
Mackay was heralded as both the 2018 USCAA Division II National Coach of the Year and the American Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year, after leading SUNY Delhi to an eight-win improvement from her first season and the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament berth. The Broncos opened the 2018 campaign with nine straight victories, and finished 11-4 overall to secure the program's highest win total in 11 years. SUNY Delhi also earned the program's first-ever national ranking, achieving recognition for four consecutive weeks in the USCAA Division II Coaches' Poll. 
 
Mackay first entered the collegiate coaching ranks with a pair of two-year stints as an assistant coach at the Division III level at both nearby Sage (2015-16) and SUNY Potsdam (2013-14). Sage posted a stellar 26-12-1 overall record including a 15-3 mark in Skyline Conference action during her two seasons with the Gators. Mackay began her coaching career at the high school level at her alma mater, Stillwater (2007-12), where she spent her final three years as the varsity head coach from 2010-12.
 
Mackay played semi-pro soccer for five years, competing in the Women's Premier Soccer League for both the WPSL Alleycats (2011) and the Adirondack Lynx (2007-08). She also played for the W-League's Hudson Valley Quick Strike Lady Blues (2009-10), who advanced to the W-League Final Four in 2009.
 
Mackay earned her B.S. in Club Management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2007, where she was a four-year member of the women's soccer program and a team captain in 2006. She received her Masters of Science in Health Education from The Sage Colleges in 2016, and is currently pursuing a second Masters of Science in Nutrition from Stony Brook, with an anticipated graduation of May 2022.
 
Mackay starred locally at Stillwater High School, earning First Team All-New York State honors in 2002 while captaining the squad to the NYS Final Four.
 
Mackay joins a Siena Women's Soccer program fresh off its third MAAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance this spring. The Saints are expected to return eight starters from this past year's team which posted a 6-1-2 overall record while also capturing the program's first-ever MAAC Regular Season Championship.
