It was a small slate of games in the Development Academy over the weekend as Easter Sunday put a kibosh on travel for most clubs. The 15 games featured teams from all over the country as action heats up in the final stages of the regular season. 

Last week, three teams booked their spots in the postseason as PDA U18, Real Salt Lake Arizona U16, and LA Galaxy U16 all confirmed an extended season. In the coming weeks, dozens of more teams will join them.

CENTRAL

Pauly Apostolopoulos’ sixth goal of the season was enough for Colorado Rush U18 to beat Real Colorado on Friday night. Rush sits in second place in the Frontier Division after 22 games with a 14-6-2 record. The two Colorado clubs battled to a 1-1 draw in the U16 game. The draw helped neither side as they remain in sixth and seventh in the divisional standings.

Wisconsin commit Michael Catalano scored the game-winner for Chicago Magic PSG on Saturday in a 1-0 win over Indiana Fire Academy. It was the third goal of the season for the Lake Park High School senior. Magic remains in third place in the Mid-America with the win while Indiana Fire dropped to fifth and out of the wildcard picture following the defeat.

Magic also picked up a win in the U16 age group. Recent Marquette commit Luka Prpa scored the opener in a 3-0 win. Northern Illinois Grzegorz Solawa scored twice in 10 minutes for the other two goals. Magic is also third in the division in the U16 age group, which is the final spot for an automatic berth to the postseason.

The Chicago club completed the sweep with a 4-0 win in the U14 age group. Ronaldo Diaz scored twice and Adrian Corona and Alejandro Hernandez each scored a goal.

Rodrigo Castillo and Sean Armistead each scored twice and Texans SC Houston U14 rolled to a 4-1 win over Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Domingo Mba Ayecaba scored the goal for Dynamo. Texans SC Houston are undefeated in their last six games but face a big test with a pair of games against FC Dallas upcoming.

A late goal from Alonzo Mata helped Lonestar SC Academy U14 snag a 2-1 victory against Texas Rush on Saturday. Michael Romero scored the other goal for Lonestar. Daniel Cabrera scored the lone goal for Rush.

EAST

Dennis Zapata’s fifth goal of the season helped Orlando City U18 capture a 1-0 win against Georgia United on Saturday. The result may prove to be costly for Georgia United in the coming weeks as the squad fights for a playoff spot in the Southeast Division. The U16 game featured more fireworks as Orlando City came back from an early 3-1 deficit to snag a 3-3 draw. Orlando City’s Jaiden Fortune started the party in the eighth minute with his first goal of the season. Georgia United answered back with three goals in 16 minutes. Plamen Mangarov, Chris Mikus, and Patrick Okonkwo were the goal scorers. U.S. youth international David Loera snagged the point from the jaws of defeat with a goal three minutes before half and then another two minutes before the final whistle. Both teams are sitting in wild card positions following the cathartic result.

New England Revolution U18 rolled to a 6-0 win over Everton FC Westchester on Saturday. Amadu Kanuteh scored twice while Daniel Apajee, Federico Ferre, Zachary Herivaux, and Declan McCabe each added a goal. Revolution remained in third place in the division after the win. Everton FC Westchester rebounded with a 4-1 win in the U16 game. All four of Everton’s goals game in a 12-minute span. Cameron Riach, Daniel Figarella, Christopher Estevez, and Thomas Suchecki scored for FC Westchester. Justin Rennicks had the goal for New England. Revolution won the day though with a 2-1 win in the U14 game. Alex Shterenberg and Christian Schifano scored for the MLS Academy. Andrew Lasso had the goal for Everton FC Westchester U14.

WEST

The only fixture from the West was in Vancouver where the Whitecaps played host to Crossfire on Saturday. The ‘Caps won the U18 matchup 2-0 behind late goals from Kianz Froese and Marco Bustos. Crossfire won the U16 matchup 4-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Joey Parish. Michael Figg and Hassani Dotson also scored for Crossfire. Dario Zanatta scored for Vancouver.
