Aggies add Lenz for 2010

January 30, 2010
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M(w) head soccer coach G Guerrieri announced the addition of defender Rachel Lenz to the Aggie soccer roster on Sunday.

From Round Rock, Texas, Lenz is a graduate of Round Rock High School and played for the ’91 Lonestars soccer club coached by J.D. Cochran.

“We are all very excited to have Rachel join us at Texas A&M,” said Guerrieri. “She is an incredible young lady and is going to have a wonderful impact on our team’s success. We rate her as the top defender in the state and the southern United States, and as one of the very best defenders in the nation in her age group.  She is fast, fearless, smart, dominant in air battles, skillful, and has always been an excellent teammate.  She is a great addition to our team.”

As a captain of the ’91 Lonestars, Lenz led her team to three state championships and to the regional quarterfinals all three years. Her squad was the premier league champion in 2008 and competed in the EDDOA Premier League from 2005-08. Lenz was a member of the Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2006-10 and took international trips to Spain and Brazil. She participated in a U-20 Women’s National Team camp in 2009 and played for the South Texas ODP State team from 2004-08. Lenz was named the Newcomer of the Year All Cen-Tex in 2007, was a first team all-district selection in 2008 and made the 2008 Adidas Elite Soccer Program.

Lenz, who played with Aggie freshmen Nora Skelton and Chelsea Jones on the ’91 Lonestars team, begins training with the A&M soccer team immediately and will play in all of the spring exhibition matches.

“We feel especially blessed to have Rachel at A&M a semester early,” continued Guerrieri. “I’m confident that she will gain some vital college experience prior to the start of her freshman season this fall, and that she will fully integrate and develop within our program.”

Rachel is the daughter of Russel and Cindy Lenz of Round Rock, Texas. She has an older brother, Aaron, and plans to major in civil engineering.
