Coaches soak up Connecticut Clinic
February 17, 2009
Players have thousands of camps to choose from, why not coaches?
The Soccer Champions Coaches’ Clinic, held Feb. 26-28 at Mohegan Sun Convention Center in Uncasville, CT, provides the answer. The event, traditionally a favorite among coaches of all levels, combines instruction, networking opportunities and old-fashioned fun for more than 1,000 coaches attending at the Connecticut resort.
Tony DiCicco, Bruce Arena, and Ray Reid (L to R)“We provide some of the best presenters in the world at the spectacular venue in Mohegan Sun," said Rick Orluk, who puts on the event along with Connecticut men’s head coach Ray Reid and Boston Breakers head coach Tony DiCicco. “It’s a great atmosphere for coaches to learn from other coaches.”
Along with former national title winner Reid and former Women’s World Cup winner DiCicco, the camp features high-profile presenters such as former USMNT head coach Bob Gansler, MLS coach Dave Sarachan, U.S. strength and conditioning coach Pierre Barrieu and well-known women’s college coaches Tracy Leone and Erica Walsh.
“We have things for coaches of all levels, genders and experience,” Orluk said. “We really try to cover a broad range of topics.”
The ballroom of the Convention Center is converted into a giant soccer field, with bleacher space for more than 1,000 coaches. A separate exhibitor’s zone is set up to allow coaches opportunities to shop for business items of all sorts. A hearty social program is enjoyed throughout the event.
“It’s a great soccer atmosphere and a chance for everyone to spend time with their colleagues in coaching,” Orluk said. “People really love that.”
Although the event is approaching quickly, Orluk said, coaches interested can register online at www.soccerchampionsclinic.com for $155 or pay $175 at the door. The fee carries with it a membership to NSCAA and attendance at the conference can count for education credits at various levels, including an “E” certificate for those who don’t have one.
The web site also provides options for off-site hotels less than five minutes drive from the Convention Center, which is sold out.
