Big East lands a pair of top prospects

Big East lands a pair of top prospects
April 19, 2011
Following a couple months of diligent research and campus visits, Mael Corboz’s college decision came down to the very thing that helped afford him options to begin with.

Soccer.

“They were all great schools, but the deciding factor was the soccer program,” said Corboz, of his decision to attend Rutgers for the 2012 season. “I really liked the coaching staff, their philosophy of the game and the players they’re bringing to the program. I have a lot of faith in the Rutgers coaching staff and players.”

{mosimage:300}So much so that Corboz selected the Scarlet Knights over a heavyweight collection of top schools and programs he had previously mapped out for us.

A central midfielder from NJSA 04, Corboz is our No. 55 Top 100 prospect. Corboz is a dynamic attacker who improvises well and has a knack for creating goals. He has been a part of U.S. National camps and carries a lot of potential.

Now for the rest of the week’s announcements:

John Pothast (Sockers FC) has verbally committed to Marquette for the 2012 season. Pothast is ranked No. 11 in the Midwest Region. He is a dependable midfielder for his Development Academy club and is looking forward to making the leap to the college level.

“Marquette is a good fit for me from both an academic and athletic standpoint,” he said. “It will allow me to play in the Big East Conference for a program that is on the rise.”

Bryan Darby (RFC) has verbally committed to Radford for the 2012 season

2011

Neil Ignacio (LA Galaxy) has signed with UC Riverside for the 2011 season. Ignacio is an exciting player who is leading the Galaxy in goals scored.

Commit Consideration

Sylvester Contreras, No. 95 in our Top 100, is keeping his options open but also considering the likes Syracuse, UNC Greensboro and Georgia Southern. He has yet to take any visits.
