CASL dominates with 2 wins in weekend play
February 9, 2009
{mosimage:200}After two weekend wins, North Carolina club CASL Chelsea has the best overall record of the U18 division, standing at 11-1-1. The squad is 5-1-0 in the Atlantic Division, which is what is used to determine the top three finishers who will qualify for the Academy playoffs at the end of the season. Nine divisions advance three teams each based on divisional records, with the final five spots determined by overall record among the nine, fourth-placed finishers.

While Richmond Kickers at 8-1-3 are also off to a good divisional start, CASL has three and four games in hand compared to Virginia Rush and Richmond Strikers respectively, the two teams closest to them on points, with the rest of the division trailing.

This weekend CASL beat Virgina Rush 4-1 and Bridge FA 1-0. Eli Garner scored twice vs. Rush, with Chipper Root and Joseph Babington adding one each. Scott Goodwin played in goal. Alex Long recorded a shutout in goal against Bridge, with Garner scoring another goal.

The CASL team includes a number of players who have done well at the national level with previous teams including some high-profile college recruits like Ryan Metts (Wake Forest), Alex Long (South Carolina), Isack Niyongabo, Chipper Root and Scott Goodwin (North Carolina)

CASL is off next week but a crowded slate of 29 matches in 10 states across the country will take place for the U18s.
