The Houston Dynamo have signed a second player from its Academy this summer, announcing the addition of midfielder/forward Daniel Rios to a Homegrown contract. Juan Castilla signed back on June 15.

“We are very proud to see Danny Rios take this important next step in his career. Danny has earned this opportunity through his dedication, commitment and play on the field," Dynamo Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan said in a release. "Our Academy and First Team staffs have done a great job helping these young men develop both on and off the field and Danny's development is a testament to this work and direction we are moving in as a club."

Rios made 14 appearances for the Dynamo Under-17s and Under-19s during the 2019-20 season, scoring four goals before the Development Academy season ended. He helped the Dynamo advanced to the higher bracket of the Generation adidas Cup during the season. In the most recent update to the 2021 IMG Academy player rankings, he checked in at No. 11.

Having joined the Houston Dynamo Academy back in 2013, he's made a total of 87 appearances in DA games since 2016-17 prior to signing.

“Danny is a Houstonian who has been in the Academy since he was very young, which makes this extra special. Many wonderful coaches, family members and mentors have helped him along the way,” Dynamo Academy Director Paul Holocher said in a statement. “On the field, Danny has been very deliberate in his own development, focusing on his strengths and identifying areas to improve. His goal is to become an even more complete player.”

Rios signed a pre-contract and will be added to the Dynamo roster on January 1, 2021.
