BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Hailey Longwell (PA) scored in the 80th minute to give the East a 1-1 draw with the Midwest in the 2004 contest on Tuesday night in the annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional at the Spanish River Athletic Complex in Boca Raton, Fla.

Longwell, 15, of Pittsburgh, rose up and nodded home a corner kick from Olivia Lindsey (NY) in the waning seconds of the match.

“We lost yesterday and I just wanted to get a goal for the East region,” Longwell said. “It was pretty big. We played way better today. I think we could have won, but it was good to tie at least.

“This is a great experience because there are college coaches and scouts here,” Longwell added. “The play against other teams is very hard and it is good competition. It is really fun to play with girls from all of the other states in our region.”

East Region head coach Sue Ryan, who was on the bench for 2006 head coach Tom Hayes’ victory, was ecstatic with her team’s performance.
