Three new No. 1 teams on the boys’ side

At U13, CASL Academy Jrs lost to former No. 1 Strikers FC Chingirian during group play at the US Youth Soccer National Championships, but took the ultimate prize in the final’s rematch by a 2-1 score to earn the national championship crown and the final No. 1 ranking.

At U15, USYS Nationals allowed for a new No. 1 as well. After regulation play ended in a 1-1 draw, former No. 3 McLean surpassed CFA Raiders on penalties to finish the season at No. 1.

FC Dallas U16 Development Academy ran the table at the DA Playoffs, allowing just one goal in six matches to remain at No. 1. The top four remain as is based on DA Finals results, with runner up LA Galaxy at No. 2, consolation winner Real Colorado at No. 3, and final four participant Chicago Fire at No. 4.

The biggest jump in rankings on the boys’ side comes in the U17 age group, where Pipeline FC Black took the US Youth Nationals over No. 2 Loudoun 98 Red and No. 3 Baltimore Celtic 98/99. Pipeline forward Benjamin Alexander scored both goals in the final and finished the tournament as top scorer with four goals. Pipeline gained almost all of its points at the end of the season, winning Maryland State Cup, the USYS Region I Championships, and finally the US Youth Nationals to jump from No. 9 all the way to the top spot.

At U18, Nomads makes a jump into the top five at No. 4 after making a run into the Development Academy final weekend.

One new No. 1 on the girls’ side

Like the U13 age group on the boys’ side, Solar Chelsea 03 Red lost to So Cal Blues Baker in group play at the US Youth Soccer National Championships, but outlasted them in overtime in the final to climb from No. 3 to No. 1 in the Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25.

At U14, PSG Michigan Gators 02 Orange earned a victory in overtime against Braddock Road YC Elite to take the USYS title and climb to No. 12 to finish the season.

No changes to the No. 1 teams in the U15 through U18 age groups, but there is a new member of the rankings at U15. Midwest United Royal claimed the USYS National Championship over fellow National League and Region II competitor CUP Gold 00/01 to finish the season at No. 22. In fact, the final four for the USYS championships at this age group was comprised solely of teams from Region II, Campton United and FC Pride from Indiana rounding out the semifinal qualifiers.

Coming in September: Initial standings for the 2016-17 season

Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
