IMG Cup - College Showcase Day 3 Highlights

BRADENTON — A little windy, but teams found clear skies for the final day of the IMG Cup Showcase at the academy south of Tampa Bay. Here are a few notable matches:
 
BOYS: U14 USL ODP Region 4 vs. U14 USL ODP Region 2
 
ODP White scored three second half goals to top ODP Blue 3-0 in an early morning game Sunday.
 
White got goals from George Angelides, Jeton Capani and Lucas Fecci, while keeper Kyle Coker made three saves for the shutout.
 
After a scoreless first half in which both teams had two shots apiece, White scored quickly why Angelides put a shot into the left side past blue keeper Ethan Higgin, who made five saves and kept his team from being handed a blowout loss.
 
Midway through the second half, Capani tapped in his goal when communication between Higgin and a defender broke down, while Fecci put in the third goal with just seconds left in the game.
 
Blue was limited in its chances and scoring opportunities, but did see a solid game from midfielder Christian Arcos, while fellow midfielders Nick Scott and Brenan Creek played more defense than offense.
 
Jason Diaz and Giancarlo Franco both played defense well to help White to the shutout win.
 
GIRLS: U17 TBU Elite 97 vs. IMGA U17
 
IMGA U17 brought a dominant performance against U17 TBO Elite 97 and came away with a 2-0 win Sunday morning.
 
Thanks to numerous chances and shots, IMGA got an early goal from Regina Gonzalez and second-half goal from Sravya Kamarajugadda.
 
Facing little opposition, however, IMGA keeper Ashley Triplett made two saves and faced only two shots, one coming from TBU speedster forward Sydny Nasello, who also had good runs during the game.
 
Gonzalez's goal came when TBU couldn't clear a loose ball and Gonzalez cleaned it up into the open net.
 
In the second half, Eva Frazzoni made a good midfield run and sent a through ball to Kamarajugadda, who buried a shot from about 17 yards out in to the upper left corner of the goal.
 
TBU did thwart many other IMGA chances, as the back line played well led by Lacy Nasello, University of Tampa commit who usually plays back on defense, but also makes long runs and contributes on offense, as well.
 
BOYS: U15 Strictly Soccer vs Elite Premier 99/00
 
In a tightly contested, but chippy game, U15 Strictly Soccer and Elite Premier 99/00 played to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon.
With the heat rising after a cool morning, tempers flared from both teams that each grabbed a couple of yellow cards and ended with neither team shaking hands after the game.
 
Strictly Soccer got on the board first when right defensive back Zach Noyes put away a shot early in the first half, as SS took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
Elite, which had just a few chances and one shot on goal in the first, came out charging in the second half, getting numerous shots and looks from the speedy forward, Jeffrey Heist. 
 
However, it was fellow speedy forward Bryan Gilbert who tied that game with about 15 minutes remaining in the game.
 
Strictly soccer played tough defense, throughout, but not the teams played a physical, but even match. Elite had three shots in the second half.
 
BOYS: U17 Weston Premier FC Black 97 vs Florida Rush 97 Nero
 
Florida Rush 97 Nero used a pair of goals — one early and one late — to down U17 Weston Premier FC Black 97 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
 
Talented forward Mikael Martins struck early, putting one past the Weston keeper and in the left corner.
 
Weston had some chances to get on the board, including two shots from Max Cardanas and Diego Luis. Nero keeper Justin Boisvert had a big game posting the shutout with five saves.
 
Martins had a chance to grab a second goal in the second half, however, Weston keeper Mauricio Gonzalez came up with a huge save. Martins went to left side of the goal, but Gonzalez, who had four saves, made a great diving save, knocking away the shot with one hand.
 
With 10 minutes left in the game, things got physical and bit chippy, as Nero would be awarded a free kick about 30 yards from the goal. Catching Weston off guard, Jose Martinez found a wide open Tim Mansingh, who snuck the ball past a distracted Gonzalez. Weston players were talking to the head referee, who allowed the play to continue and the goal to stand.
