New Region I ODP coach announced
February 23, 2012
Region I Director Bob Palmeiro has announced that he has appointed former Georgetown University Head Coach Keith Tabatznik as the new Head Coach for the Boy’s Olympic Development Program. Tabatznik takes over for Jay Hoffman who served in the position for the last 5 years and stepped down last summer. In addition to Hoffman the Head Coaches for Region I ODP have included former US National team coach Bob Bradley and US Hall of Famer Manny Schellscheidt.
Tabatznik spent 22 years as the Head Coach at Georgetown University ending his career there in 2005 as the winningest coach in the school’s history. Twice the BIG EAST CONFERENCE coach of the Year as well as the US Amateur Soccer Association National Coach of the Year, Tabatznik led the Hoyas (a program with no more then 2 scholarships at the time) to 1 BIG EAST title and 2 NCAA tournament appearances.
Since leaving Georgetown Tabatznik has served in several capacities including the Assistant National Coach for Bermuda during their World Cup qualifying campaign for 2010 and the Technical Director for the Crystal Palace USA NASL professional team. He also commentates on Fox Soccer for their NSCAA college games of the week and the USL Pro games of the week,
A holder of the US Soccer “A” license, Tabatznik has been involved in ODP for almost 30 years. In 2011 he was inducted into the DC/Virginia Soccer Hall of Fame. In the late 90s Tabatznik was the USASA National team head coach (which served as the US “B” team). He has also been on the US National staff for Coaching Education. He is President of ktsoccerworld.com – a soccer training and consulting company and is a co-Director of the Elite 300 Soccer Academy.
“I am honored to oversee the Region I Olympic Development Program.” Tabatznik said. “I hope to continue the proven success of the ODP in identifying and developing players for our national teams, pro teams and top colleges.”
