ODP wraps three days of action for 2001s

The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Winter Interregional came to a close on Sunday with Region I finishing on top of the four-team group. Region I won all three of its games, outscoring the competition five goals to two. 
 
Region II finished in second with a 1-1-1 record, scoring four goals and allowing four. Region IV came in third with a 1-2 record (3 GF, 4 GA) and Region III finished in fourth with a 0-2-1 record (1 GF, 3 GA). 
 
Juan Molina of Region I was the event's top goal scorer with three goals while Mason Leeth (RII) and Cameron Weller (RIV) scored two goals each. Carter Houlihan (RI), Jaden Jones-Riley (RII), Noah Madrigal (RII), Dennis Mensah (RI), Joseph Tawah (RII), and Julian Vazquez (RIV) each scored one goal in the tournament. 
 
The three-day tournament, which began Friday at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, featured teams in the 2001 age group with approximately 75 of the top players in the nation selected through evaluations made by the US Youth Soccer State Association with input on the regional level. With the IMG Super Group going on simulataneously, as well as the Boys Invitational, there were a plethora of college coaches and U.S. Soccer scouts in attendance.

Day One
 
Region II 2, Region IV 1 
Mason Leeth and Joseph Tawah scored to help Region II secure a 2-1 win over Region IV in the first game of the tournament. Cameron Weller gave Region IV a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute before Leeth's goal in the 35th minute evened the score. Tawah put Region II ahead with a score in the 40th minute before Region II's defensive back line held firm throughout the rest of the match for the win. 
 
Region I 1, Region III 0
In the other game, Dennis Mensah scored the game's only goal with a precision strike from just inside the top of the penalty box in the 57th minute to give Region I a victory.
 
Day Two
 
Region II 1, Region III 1 
Region II and Region III played a heated game in which each team scored and eventually finished in a 1-1 draw. Mason Leeth scored first for Region II with a goal in the 49th minute before Jaden Jones-Riley evened the game a few minutes later.  
 
Region I 2, Region IV 1
The second game of the day was the most exciting contest of the day when Region I stormed back from a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the last 10 minutes of the match. Julian Vazquez gave Region IV a 1-0 lead when he scored in the 27th minute. Region IV appeared to be headed for its first victory of the tournament but Region I's Carter Houlihan took advantage of a foul in the box by Region IV, converting a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. Juan Molina then put Region I ahead for good when he scored three minutes later.
 
Day Three
 
Region I 2, Region II 1 
 
Region I finished the tournament with a win in their last day of action, beating Region II 2-1 to end the event with a 3-0-0 record. Juan Molina scored twice for Region I while Noah Madrigal scored for Region II. 
 
Region IV 1, Region III 0
In the last game of the tournament, Region IV claimed their first victory of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Region III. Cameron Weller scored his second goal of the tournament.  
 
After the tournament, the coaches from each region, along with other US Youth Soccer ODP coaches in attendance, compiled a list of the top 10 players of the tournament. This is the list of the players, along with the region and their position:
