ODP’s future looks bright in aftermath
The uncertainty in the club soccer landscape following the departure of U.S. Soccer from the youth game is putting the spotlight on some new leagues, and also drawing some attention back to some avenues that have been in place all along.
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) is one of the most storied organizations in soccer history in the U.S. with numerous National Team members among the notable alums from the program.
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy prohibited players from partaking in outside competition including ODP. With the Development Academy gone, TopDrawerSoccer chatted with Greg Maas, the ODP West Region Boys Head Coach and Utah Valley University Head Coach, about what it means for ODP, the college recruiting approach to ODP, and how players are selected for the program.
