D.C. United Academy midfielder Philip Bogdanov (2003) has been called up to the U-16 Russia Men's National Team for their upcoming February training camp and matches. Bogdanov holds both a U.S. and Russian passport and is eligible for both teams.

Starting his career at McLean Youth Soccer, Bogdanov started three years for Bethesda SC, before moving to D.C. United in 2018. He missed this weekend’s Generation adidas Cup tournament in Atlanta to compete with the Russian national team.

The camp in Montenegro runs from February 17-24 and will be used as the team’s preparation for the Euro 2019 campaign. Bogdanov was scouted during Bethesda's MIC cup quarterfinal run in Spain last year, performances with D.C. United, as well as playing for Zenit St. Petersburg in an international tournament this past summer.

Mace makes move to Sweden

Another top draft pick won’t be joining up with the NWSL side that selected her.

UCLA forward Hailie Mace signed with FC Rosengard in the Swedish Damallsvenskan, a club based in Malmö. She finished her collegiate career with 79 appearances, 24 goals and 12 assists during her four seasons in Westwood. Per the club’s announcement, Mace is expected to play up front, although she can also deputize as a wingback.

Torres signs pro deal in USL Championship

After recently getting called into U.S. Under-15 BNT camp in January, Leo Torres has signed his first professional contract.

The 15-year-old midfielder agreed to join USL Championship club San Antonio FC, where he’s been since the start of the 2016 season when the Development Academy launched.

“We’re very proud to have Leo as the first full-time academy player to sign with the first team,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said in a release. “This is a wonderful opportunity for him to take the next steps as we look to integrate him into the squad while he keeps evolving, working hard, and showing good character.”

Torres will continue to play in the U15 Academy until the end of the 2018-19 season before making the transition to the firs team.

“I’m excited and honored to play for this club,” Torres said in a release. “I would like to thank all of my academy coaches, the first team staff and the entire organization for this opportunity. I’m thrilled to be the first academy player to sign with the first team, and I look forward to continuing to progress while representing my city.”
