According to British tabloids, U.S. U17 Men’s National Team defender Matt Olosunde is training with Manchester United academy. Olosunde, who plays his club ball with New York Red Bulls, is a right back with pace to spare. The teenager began his youth national team career as a winger, but transitioned into a defender during his time with the U17 MNT.

The lanky defender will likely be part of the U17 MNT squad for the 2015 World Cup in Chile later this year. Olosunde is not the only member of that squad trying to find a future home this summer. Left back John Nelson has recently been training in England with West Bromwich Albion, the home of fellow U17 MNT defender Daniel Barbir. Nelson has trained with Manchester Untied in the past. With the possibility of an Italian passport, Nelson’s path to Europe is not as complicated as some of the other members of the U17 MNT squad, which are also looking across the pond for their next stop.

Barbir is in France right now with the West Bromwich Reserve/U21 team for the National Under-21 tournament. West Brom is in Group B at the event. Tottenham Hotspur is in the same competition and was placed in Group A. U.S. U20 MNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is on the roster for Spurs.

Hallo Bremen

New Jersey teenager Athanasios Scheidt is headed to Germany in August for a training stint with Werder Bremen’s academy, a source told TopDrawerSoccer. Scheidt plays for PDA’s U16 side. The midfielder was one of the most consistent players for the New Jersey club over the course of the season. The 17-year-old has a Greek passport, which could make for an easier path to Europe.

Scheidt is not the only PDA player in Europe this summer. A source also said that Isaiah Young and Josh Burnett are training with French club FC Nantes. Young was one of the breakout stars for PDA U18 during the run to the quarterfinals. He had 18 goals in 30 appearances. Burnett found the net 10 times in 26 appearances for PDA last season.

From NYC to Austria

New York Red Bulls academy center back Mason Deeds tweeted that he will be training with Red Bulls Salzburg for the next six weeks. The parent company has brought academy players from New York for training in the past, but none have latched on full time.

Deeds recently featured with the Red Bulls U16 team, which advanced to the Development Academy final.

Standing Tall

Maki Tall signed with Swiss club FC Sion last week. Tall, the U.S. U20 MNT forward, is still on the path back to the training field after suffering an injury during the U20 World Cup. Tall previously played for Le Mans, Lille, and Red Star 93. There was interest in him from a number of clubs across Europe. The Swiss club offers the best chance at first team minutes in the immediate future for the recovering striker.

Feasting while Hungary

Former Sporting KC Academy standout Daniel Salloi made his professional debut with Ujpest FC of Hungary last week. Salloi, a two-time Sporting KC Academy Player of the Year, scored 20 goals last season for Sporting KC U18. He has played for the Hungary U18 National Team in the past.
