Saad records hat-trick during Showcase Day Four

Saad records hat-trick during Showcase Day Four
December 8, 2009
PHOENIX, Arizona - Day Four of the Development Academy Winter Showcase was a virtual washout. The Rains came, and, along with the cold, made it a difficult day to play soccer.

Yet even as some fields turned into turf puddles Monday, the games carried on and there were some distinctive performances.

Soony Saad, U17/18 Derby County Wolves: Maybe the man of all the matches thus far, Saad recorded a hat trick in his team’s win over Charlotte Soccer Academy. Saad is clearly one of the top shooters, if not the top, in the Academy.

David Ellis, U15/16 Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre: Skilled tall player who uses his mature body to bring a physical presence to the game.

Michael Mcgrath, U15/16 Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre: Mcgrath was always around the goal during his match, and was one of the more aggressive shooters of the day as he took chances in the box to create opportunities for his team.

Sean Dhillon, U15/16 Irvine Strikers
: A dangerous player with a good feel for his role and his teammates, Dhillon was impressive against Andromeda.

Austin Vogt, U17/18 California Development Academy: Even on a drenched field, Vogt had command of the central midfield using pinpoint passes and a good touch - made you wonder what he could’ve done had the conditions been ideal.

Vince Paldino, U17/18 LA Galaxy: The Galaxy took on PDA on one of the worst fields at the Reach 11 Complex, but what stood out was goalkeeper Paldino’s command of the box despite shots, and splashes of water flying at him.

Sean Gardner, U17/18 PDA
: Small but quick, Gardner made some nice runs for his team on the left wing. His action eventually helped lead to a PDA goal.

Victor Pinal, U17/18 Andromeda: Pinal is thick and strong, has good ball skills and is able to push opponents off the ball when he wants to. He recorded a goal on a penalty kick during Andromeda’s 2-0 win over the Irvine Strikers.

U.S. U17s

The U.S. U17 Men’s National Team closed out their Nike International Friendlies with a 3-0 loss to the Netherlands on Monday.

It was a lopsided loss that tempered the team’s 1-1 draw with Brazil on Saturday - a moral victory. The squad ended its round-robin tournament with a 0-2-1 record, a disappointing start for the new cycle of U17s.
