So who’s No. 1?

No. 1: North Carolina

ACC women's college standings.
The National Champion Tar Heels will lose star midfielder Yael Averbuch, a Hermann Trophy finalist, along with midfielder Allie Long and goalkeeper Anna Rodenbough but they’ve tried to compensate with a class of nine stars.

Coach Anson Dorrance has restocked the shelves of his soccer factory at Chapel Hill with talent like Amber Brooks (3), the Arsenal Soccer Club midfielder with enormous potential. Brooks, a US Youth National team player, is a true two-way midfielder who combines aggressiveness with finesse.

Joining Brooks will be Ohio Elite forward Alyssa Rich (22), goalkeeper Hannah Daly (95) (Reno Sparks) and defender Barkley Minton (CASL).

Can you say back-to-back champions?

No 2: Boston College

The signing of Kristen Mewis (1) and Victoria DiMartino (4) is the best tandem pickup of any program in the country. Both will be immediate factors and on next level and both have spent plenty of time together while playing on US Youth National Teams.

Mewis was awarded the Girls Youth Player of the Year at the NSCAA Convention. She’s a special talent with strength and athleticism, not to mention a competitive streak.

DiMartino is technically proficient and quick and decisive with the ball. The duo is a major coup for Boston College.

Maddie Payne will also join the class and should mesh well with current Eagles stars Jillian Mastroianni, Julia Bouchelle and Alyssa Pember.

Club soccer player Julia Roberts.Julia Roberts
No 3:
Virginia

The Cavaliers are placing a few of their eggs in one basket, which is fine, because it happens to be one heck of a basket.

Three McLean Soccer Club teammates highlight the class in Julia Roberts (5), Caroline Miller (39) and Erica Hollenberg, and will be joining a Virginia team that has lost valuable players Nikki Krzysik, Alex Singer and Sarah Senty.

Roberts is a great ball-winning defender with national team experience while strikers Miller and Hollenberg will bring aggressive attacking skill.

On the defensive side, Kiley Naylor (Ohio Elite), Morgan Stith (Montclair Aristocats) and Carrie Wisman (Roanoke Stars) will fill some of the gap left by last season’s valuable seniors.

Virginia finished in a tie for third in the conference last season.

No 4: Florida State

The Seminoles are coming off a monumental season in which they equaled the highest conference winning percentage in school history.

Kelsey Wys, of Parkland SC, is one of the best goalkeeping prospects in the country. She has great size, at 5-foot-10, is a tremendous athlete and contains the kind of will to win that can’t be taught.

She’ll be joined by midfielder Tiana Brockway, of Emerald City, a skilled attacking player with good vision for hitting passes.

No. 5: Duke

The Blue Devils have added a nice mix of players to fill different positions starting with midfielder Nicole Lipp (21), a good leader from Eclipse Select. Caroline Simpkins (82) and Maddy Haller will also fill spots in the midfield.

On the other side, defenders Erin Koballa and Kim DeCesare join the group with goalkeeper Tara Campball, of Ohio Elite SA.

The Blue Devils have lost six seniors but return leading scorers KayAnne Gummersall and Elisabeth Redmonth.
