FRISCO, Texas — It probably wasn’t a coincidence that two of the best Under-14 teams squared off against each other on the first day of action of the Development Academy Showcase.

Home side FC Dallas edged the LA Galaxy 2-1 after 80 minutes of pulsating, back-and-forth, end-to-end action.

FCD’s Malik Henry nodded home the game-winning goal from a set piece, as the Galaxy spurned a number of chances to take the lead. Efrain Alvarez canceled out Johan Gomez’s opening strike with an outrageous lob over goalkeeper Michael Collodi late in the first half.
