U16 Academy Weekend Recap
April 6, 2011

Yesterday we looked at the U18’s action over the weekend and today we look at their younger counterparts in the U16 division. There were blowouts, stalemates and some wild scorelines across the Academy.

West Conference

Real Salt Lake-Arizona defeated Arsenal FC  2-0 with the day belonging to Dylan Kelly our #32 overall player in the 2013 class. The forward scored both of the goals for a Real Salt Lake team that also featured #43 overall player, Isaias Juarez. The win for RSL pulls them back into the mix in the SoCal Division.

The Cosmos West were led by a goal from #13 overall rated player Martin Arrieta as well as strikes from Bradford Jamieson and Bryan Guzman. The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the San Diego Surf 2-0 on Saturday afternoon behind goals from Eric Gonzalez and Sean Dhillon as well as a shutout from Joshua McNeely, the highest rated goalkeeper in our 2013 class.

Central Conference

Frontier Division

The top two teams in the Frontier Division faced off on Saturday afternoon as Sporting Kansas City defeated Shattuck-Saint Mary’s 2-0. #71 overall prospect David Liechty and Wes White had the goals for SKC while ranked players Ryan Hill, Clay Stewart and Seo-In Kim also featured for the MLS academy side. The other game of the weekend for SKC was a 0-0 draw with Minnesota Thunder Academy featuring shutouts from goalies Nicholas Lenertz and Evan Wright.

Texas Division

Down in Texas, a light schedule saw FC Dallas score the most impressive result of the weekend with a goal from Bobby Edet and two goals from Erick Chapa leading FCD to a 3-0 win over Lonestar SC with goalie Caleb Underwood pitching a shutout. Lonestar SC would bounce back on Sunday, however, defeating Andromeda 2-0 behind goals from Benjamin Joseph and Jason Strouphauer.

Great Lakes Division

Up in the Great Lakes, a 37th minute goal from Jeffery Adkins saw Vardar defeat Chicago Magic 1-0 rising to second place in the division. The Columbus Crew Academy cemented their first place position in the division with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Indiana United. All three goals for Columbus came in the second half through Jeremy Fernandes, Jared Robinson and Thomas Harr while Mike Thomas wasn’t beaten in goal.

On Saturday afternoon, CSA defeated the IMG Soccer Academy in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory.
