The United States Under-17 WNT qualified for this year’s World Cup in Morocco on Sunday. A 4-0 defeat against Puerto Rico secured first place in Group B.
It culminated a strong week in Costa Rica, which saw the United States score 32 goals without conceding another.
The event opened with a 19-0 win against Bermuda that featured 10 different goal scorers. Following that, a Giselle Aguilar hat trick anchored a 9-0 defeat of Haiti.
Sunday’s match against Puerto Rico was for first place in the group and a spot in the World Cup. Madeline DiMaria opened the scoring in the 21st minute from the penalty spot, before Mia Corona doubled the lead before the break. DiMaria assisted Mak Whitham’s goal, the third of the game, and Corona was credited with the helped on Taylor Morrell’s fourth and final goal.
