US Youth National Glance: A PA Dynasty
About five miles south of the spot where George Washington made his fateful trip across the Delaware in 1776, there’s Macclesfield Park. The sprawling 92-acre green space abuts the river and exists in the midst of the small towns that dot the rolling countryside of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
At least on the surface, it doesn’t have the glamorous cachet of SoCal or the strong soccer history of Northern Jersey. So to look at it, you might not expect the park to be the youth soccer home for no fewer than three current pro soccer players.
But YMS Xplosion is full of surprises.
Xplosion - the Y is for Yardley, the M for Makefield Township and the S for (shocker) soccer - has carved out a niche for itself in the US Youth Soccer space between high school soccer and the club game. Xplosion is largely a collection plate for the most talented high school players in the northern Philadelphia burbs of Bucks County and the surrounding areas, and it’s become known as arguably the best non-Development Academy club option in Pennsylvania.
