The fourth and final part of the series tracing the development pathways of the U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup roster is below.

Check out part onepart two and part three from earlier this week as TDS looks back at how each player reached the professional ranks and national team.

D Joe Scally
Current Club: Borussia Monchengladbach
Youth National Team Experience: U15, U17 World Cup (2019)
Youth Club: New York City FC

Six years after he was part of the Under-15 BNT, Joe Scally is off to a World Cup with the full team. Part of the New York City FC Academy, he was teammates with Reyna at the U17 World Cup in 2019. After just four appearances in MLS, he joined Borussia Monchengladbach on a transfer, earning enough playing time over the past year to secure a spot in Qatar.

GK Matt Turner
Current Club: Arsenal FC (ENG)
Youth National Team Experience: N/A
Youth Club: Clarkstown SC
College: Fairfield

The Matt Turner story is relatively well-known. He didn’t start playing soccer until he was 14, eventually making varsity at St. Joseph's Regional High School in New Jersey and club at Clarkstown SC. After landing at Fairfield, he wasn’t the starter until his junior season. After going undrafted, Turner broke through with the New England Revolution and is poised to start in Qatar.

F Tim Weah
Current Club: Lille (FRA)
Youth National Team Experience: U14, U15, U17 World Cup (2017), U20 World Cup (2019), U23
Youth Club(s): BW Gottschee, New York Red Bulls, Paris St. Germain

Another longtime youth national team veteran that eventually came good, the New York native was eligible to play for four different countries before being cap tied by the USA. After joining the PSG Academy in France, he remained on the radar of the U.S. setup, playing at the 2017 U17 and 2019 U20 World Cups. Now at Lille in France, he’ll step onto the world stage next week.

F Haji Wright
Current Club: Antalyaspor (TUR)
Youth National Team Experience: U14, U15, U17 World Cup (2015), U18, U19
Youth Club: LA Galaxy/IMG Academy Residency

The forward from California has had quite a career at just the age of 24. A regular in the U.S. youth setup, he played at the 2015 U17 World Cup with Pulisic, de la Torre and Tyler Adams. Instead of staying in MLS and signing with the Galaxy, he moved to the NY Cosmos, signing with Schalke in Germany in 2017. After washing out in Germany, he joined VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands and SønderjyskE (Denmark). He has 23 goals in Antalyaspor (Turkey) in 44 games that helped him earn the spot at the World Cup.

D DeAndre Yedlin
Current Club: Inter Miami CF
Youth National Team Experience: U20 World Cup (2013)
Youth Club(s): Crossfire Premier, Seattle Sounders
College: Akron(m)

The lone holdover from the 2014 World Cup, Yedlin is one of the most experienced players despite being just 29 years old. The Pacific Northwest native joined the Seattle Sounders Academy from Crossfire Premier, before heading to Akron(m) for two seasons. Eventually, he signed a Homegrown deal with Seattle. After the 2014 World Cup, he signed with Tottenham in England. This year, he returned to MLS with Inter Miam, coming from Galatasaray in Turkey.

D Walker Zimmerman
Current Club: Nashville SC
Youth National Team Experience: U18, U20, U23

College: Furman

Another Georgia native that battled his way to a World Cup squad, the central defender played at GSA and at Brookwood High School in the Atlanta suburbs. He played at Furman for two seasons before signing a Generation adidas contract, where he was picked by FC Dallas in the 2012 edition of the draft.
