USSF Academy embarks on another weekend of action
September 12, 2009
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy resumes action this weekend with several clubs playing their season opener.
Today will see Andromeda debut against the Dallas Texans, along with Crossfire Premier against Santa Cruz County Breakers, Washington Premier FC vs. Mustang SC and Richmond Strikers against the Richmond Kickers.
Strikers U16 coach Erwan Le Crom is looking forward to getting things underway with his new group.
The Dallas Texans begin their campaign against Andromeda this weekend.“We’ve been coming along, we’ve had a productive month but there is still a ways to go,” Le Crom said. “We have some strong players and as a team I think we look fine – it’s time to get out and play.”
Among the guys on Le Crom’s Strikers are a couple of players to keep an eye on: Ryan Zinkhan is a talented forward who can make things happen with his speed. He’s trained with the U.S. U17 team and has the kind of valuable experience that could propel him to a big year. He’s teamed with forward Valeriy Sviderskiy, another potent attacker capable of producing goals.
Mustang SC defender Torey McGaw also bears watching along with Juan Guerrero, a player who is strong on both sides of the ball with good tackling and ball winning.
“We have some players who will probably be playing a little on the 18s but we’ll bring them back down as they continue to develop,” said Mustang SC U16 coach Cris Gilmore. “This (weekend) will be a good learning experience for us and hopefully by December we’ll be where we hope to be.”
On the U18 side, Miami FC Kendall will rely on a couple of studs as they get back into action against Concorde Fire. Central midfielder Christian Velez is always a joy to watch and a danger on the pitch and teammate Jeffrey Stezovsky is one of the top defenders in the Southeast Division.
Texas SC DTH will get going Sunday against Solar SC, a team led by versatile defender Trevor Hubbard – a valuable member of the SuperElite Discover Europe Tour in July and August. Hubbard is joined by talented teammates Chad Asher, Rocco Bagley and Sean Cote. Texas SC DTH features central midfielder Kyle Emerson.
Also on the docket is the Virginia Rush playing McLean Youth Soccer.
