U.S. U17 WNT Heads to La Manga for U-19

February 21, 2012

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will travel to La Manga, Spain, from Feb. 28-March 10 for the Ten Nations Tournament that also features the Under-19 teams from France, England and the Netherlands.

U.S. head coach Albertin Montoya will bring a roster of 18 players for the three matches against older teams as the Americans open play against the French on March 4, face England on March 6 and finish with the Dutch on March 8.

The U.S. U-17s are coming off two impressive wins over the German U-17s in Florida in early February, taking 2-0 and 1-0 victories. Emily Bruder, Summer Green and Andi Sullivan tallied goals against the Germans.

The U-17s will be the third U.S. team to participate in a tournament in La Manga this autumn, following the U.S. U-20s, which won its competition with three straight shutout victories in the second week of February, and the U.S. Under-23 WNT, which will play in La Manga the week before the U-17s.

Montoya is preparing his team for the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championships taking place May 2-12 in Guatemala City, Guatemala at Estadio Cementos Progreso. The U.S. will face Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bahamas in Group B play with the tournament finalists and winner of the third-place match qualifying for the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in Azerbaijan from September 22 to October 13.
