Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier this evening, the men's soccer team took on the Tigers of Princeton University on Motamed Field. After being deadlocked for nearly 56 minutes, it was the Panthers who finally broke the silence to go up 1-0. They held off the visitors the remainder of the game to snap a seven game win streak with the 1-0 victory. The Brown and Gold move to 2-11 while the Tigers stand at 5-5-2.

Princeton had the upper hand in the first, taking five shots to Adelphi's three. They threatened early off of a corner taken by Joe Saitta who's high kick-in connected with the head of teammate Mark LInnville, but the attempt landed just inches wide left of the net. Following up that play just 10 minutes later, Brendan McSherry's bicycle kick from another long cross from Saitta resulted in an attempt that went just wide.

Two of Adelphi's three opportunities came about in the 43rd and 44th minutes. The first was set up by Alejandro Penzini sending a pass from the right side up toward the middle to Alex Tegnas, but his blast from 30 yards out was wide right off the mark. Shortly after, Travis Tennie sent a pass up field on a free kick and connected with Jordan Hibbert, but the header attempt was wide as well.

Princeton came out aggressive in the first half as proven by a rocket by Nico Furtado from 20 yards out in the center of the field, but once again traveled left of the post.

The Panthers returned the threat courtesy of senior Omar Edwards who dribbled the length of the field down into Tiger territory and unloaded a shot that was just high and right off the mark. However, in the 56th minute, the Panthers broke the silence on a textbook cross taken by Domenico Parrelli. His kick in connected with Hibbert who headed in the first goal of the game and his first of the season.

In the 86th minute, Omar Edwards nearly tacked on an insurance goal as he found himself deep by the right side of the goal line. Princeton keeper Max Gallin came out to contest the shot by Edwards, but the angle was not in his favor and it crossed by the net.

While the one goal proved to be enough to secure the win, it was not until the clock hit the 90th minute when the Panthers could celebrate the long awaited victory. In the final three minutes, Princeton was dangerously close to notching the equalizer, but the final attempt by Dylan Bowman with 13 seconds remaining was averted.

The visitors out-shot Adelphi 17-9 while each side tallied five corners. The Brown and Gold's Ahmad Salamah made three saves while Gallin made one in the loss.

The game was played in honor of Garden City Night with proceeds from the game benefitting the Ronald McDonald House.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, October 21 when they travel down to Washington DC to take on Howard at 2pm.
