Soccer adds to six for the upcoming season

The list includes five high student-athletes and a transfer

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State coach Jodie Smith announced the addition of six student-athletes on National Signing Day Wednesday.
 
Alabama State is coming off a 11-8-2 record last season, while winning back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships. The Lady Hornets concluded the season in the NCAA Division I Tournament against No. 1 South Carolina.
 
The list includes the following:
 
Janae Brown, F/MF. 5-1
East River HS (Orlando, FL)
 
Played at East River High in Orlando, Florida… Four year varsity player, two years captain… All- time leading scorer at East High School… was the only freshman on the 2015 all-metro team… Played on Orlando City ECNL Club Team….. Helped lead them to a ECNL SE Division 2nd place finish and an appearance in the ECNL National Playoffs…. Finished her career with 72 Goals, 24 Assists and 178 career points.
 
Lauryn Drake, GK, 5-11
Elko HS (Reno, NV)
 
Played at Elko High School in Reno, Nevada… First team All-State and All-Region in 2016 and 2017 for utility player and goalkeeper… Most improved in 2014… Most Saves in a season (196)… Most saves in a career (419)… Won Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2015 and 2017… 2017 Goal Keeper of the Year.
 
Molly Lunsford, D, 5-10
Evangelical Christian School (Ft. Myers, FL)
 
Played for GPS Club Team… Helped lead GPS to the Florida State Cup Final Four 2 years in a row… Top place finish in the Disney Showcase… At ECS helped lead team to 2 District and 1 Regional Championship… 2016, 2017 State Championship Game… All-Area Team in 2016 and 2017…. Lettered in track for the 100M Hurdles, 300M Hurdles and Triple Jump where she was named to the All Area 1st Team.
 
Mary Mooneyham, F, 5-1
Trinity Presbyterian (Montgomery, AL)
 
Played for Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery, Alabama… 2016 and 2017 offensive player of the year.. 2016 and 2017 Advertiser All-Metro selection… 2017 AHSAA All- South Selection… Played in the 2017 AHSAA south All-Star game.

Jayla Stricklin, F, 5-6
Mount Notre Dame HS (Cincinnati, OH)

 
Played at Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, Ohio… High school leading scorer in 2017… Played on Cincinnati United Premiere Club Team… 2016 club leading scorer… Four-year member of the Ohio Olympic Development Program… Helped lead team to two leagues and one district Championship.

Birgit Rijnders, 5-2
Upper Iowa University (Duffel, Belgium)
 
Sophomore transfer for Upper Iowa University… Received NSIC third team… Played on SK Berlaar Club for four years… Received the 2016-2017 Belgian Cup… Started every game.. Scored two goals last season… lead UIU in assist.
