BUFFALO, NY—C.J. Scirto (Lockport/St. Joe's) scored twice including the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining to propel Buffalo State (6-6-1) to a 2-1 victory over visiting Alfred University (4-9) in a non-conference game today at Coyer Field.

Scirto opened the scoring in the 13th minute, ripping a shot from close range inside the left post off a deflected cross from Dylan Ross (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys). The Saxons evened the game at 1-1 in the 72nd minute with a free kick from just outside the penalty box, but Scirto put the Bengals ahead for good in the 86th minute. Manny Lukwiya (Tonawanda/Schreiber) slipped a breakaway pass between two Alfred defenders and Scirto flicked the ball past a charging goalkeeper for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Bengals controlled play for much of the game, evident by a 23-9 advantage in shots, but could not convert on several scoring chances from close range, especially in the opening half. Ian Huntoon (Stamford, CT/West Hill) came up with two saves in the win, while Alfred's keeper needed to make nine stops to keep the contest close.

Buffalo State will visit the "North Country" this weekend to play at Plattsburgh on Friday and at Potsdam on Saturday.
