Alverno Drops Conference Opener To Lakeland
PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Host Lakeland College used a 24-15 shot advantage to secure its first Northern Athletics Conference victory of the season over visiting Alverno College, 4-1, this evening in the teams' conference opener.
The Muskies (1-2, 1-0 NAC) outshot the Inferno 12-4 in the first period, but held just a 1-0 lead at the break.
Lakeland added a pair of goals and went up 3-0, before the Inferno's Bryanna Gayle (Milwaukee/Riverside) dribbled into the box and beat the Muskie goalkeeper one-on-one on a pass from Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) for her first goal of the season.
It was Moniriarani's league-leading fourth assist of the young season.
But the Muskies added their fourth and final goal of the game in the 85th minute for the 4-1 final score.
The Inferno, which played its second game in as many days, drops to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in NAC play. The team next takes the field in a nonconference game at Northland International University on Friday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
