MILWAUKEE -- Five different Alverno College players scored a goal in the Inferno's season-opening victory over visiting Mount Mary College Tuesday evening at Alverno Field.

The Inferno (1-0) managed just two goals in the first half, but added five second-half scores for the 7-0 shutout win over their crosstown foe.

It took Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) just over a minute to put the Inferno in front with an unassisted goal about five yards out in front on the left-side.

The junior midfielder assisted on the next goal in the 25th minute as her pass was high and hit the crossbar, but Neysel Powell (Milwaukee/MSL) punched it past the Blue Angels' goalkeeper for the score.

Mount Mary (1-2) got off six shots -- including just one on goal -- while the Inferno fired off 22, 13 on goal.

Brittany Carpenter (Winneconne, Wis./Neenah) and Amber Thomas (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) would each add a goal in the second half, while Moniriarani added her second in the final period.

Rookie Andrea Bowhall (Salem, Wis./Bradford) added back-to-back scores in the 67th and 75th minutes for round out the scoring.

Alverno extended its winning-streak to 13 straight over Mount Mary with the win.

The Inferno gets right back into action with its first Northern Athletics Conference contest at Lakeland College, tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
