Analyzing the U.S. U20 WNT at Concacaf
The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team cruised to a Concacaf Championship over the weekend.
In seven games in the Dominican Republic, the team comprised mainly of college players outscored opponents 49-0.
While the caliber of opposition wasn’t enough to push the U.S. U20 side, it is worth noting that head coach Tracey Kelvins did a tremendous job preparing the group. There was a recognizable style of play, allowing Kelvins to heavily rotate the group throughout the tournament. Playing seven games in 14 days at a high level is a challenge, even with the depth and quality advantage.
The conversation will be much different in August, as the United States looks to win the first Under-20 World Cup since 2012, when a slew of current full national teamers won it in Japan.
