Army Faces Air Force In First Road Contest

September 6, 2013

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army men’s soccer team will travel west to battle Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. ET, for what will be its first road test of the season.

The match will be video streamed live on the Mountain West Conference website (www.themwc.com/#!/watch-live). Live stats will also be available through GameTracker on Army’s official website (www.goARMYsports.com) and in-game Twitter updates will be offered via the men’s soccer team’s official handle (@Army_MSoccer).

Army (2-0-0) will look for its first 3-0 start since 2007, when it started the season with four straight victories. The Black Knights are coming off back-to-back wins to open their season, most recently defeating Manhattan, 2-0, on Monday.

Freshman forward Nick Williams paces the Black Knights with a pair of goals through two games, while junior back Sean Mogan and sophomore midfielder Nick Baietti have each tallied a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Jason Lewis has one marker on the season, and junior goalkeeper Winston Boldt has racked up six saves and has yet to concede a goal.

A pair of Black Knights earned Patriot League weekly awards this week, as Boldt claimed Goalkeeper of the Week and Williams was tabbed Rookie of the Week for their showings during last Friday’s season-opening win over VMI.

Air Force will enter Saturday’s match with a 0-2-0 mark, after opening its season with losses at St. Mary’s and at San Francisco. The Falcons are led offensively by senior forward Brian Klazura (one goal) and junior forward Zachary Modly (one assist). Sophomore Joey Speshock and freshman Jake Schenk have split time in goal.

Army holds a 14-7-3 all-time record against Air Force in a rivalry that dates back to 1959. The service academies last met in 2012, when the Black Knights topped the Falcons, 3-0, at West Point.

Army will return home after Saturday’s contest, when it welcomes Marist to Clinton Field on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Black Knights dropped a 6-4 decision to the Red Foxes during their last meeting in 2011.
