(Kansas City, Mo.) – Despite out-shooting the Missouri State Bears 10-7 on Tuesday night, the Kansas City men’s soccer squad let in three first half goals in a 3-0 loss at Durwood Stadium.

The ‘Roos (0-2) allowed only five shots in the first period, but three of them ended up being goals for the visitors. It started with a finish in the top left corner of the net on a rocket from 25 yards out by Jared Gain in the 19th minute after a shot right before that went off the crossbar.

Just a minute later, a ball was played into the right side of the box for Gain, who calmly slotted it across the middle for Eric Martin. He tucked in in the right side of the net from 10 yards out to make it 2-0 in the 20th minute.

The final goal was the dagger though, as a ball being played in was deflected off a Kansas City defender and landed right next to the Bears’ (1-0-1) Jon Boyack just outside the six yard box, and he played it into the net.

The ‘Roos best chance of the half came in the first minute, when sophomore Jordan Rideout hit a shot on a ball across the middle, but the MSU goalkeeper was in good position for the save.

The second period was controlled by Kansas City though, out-shooting the Bears 7-2. The ‘Roos had a few good scoring chances, but the MSU defense was up to the task each time.

Rideout led UMKC with three shots. The ‘Roos played two goalkeepers on the night as well with Connor Sparrow playing the first half and junior Kevin Corby coming in for the final stanza.
