Blazers Suffer 4-1 Loss At Kennesaw State
Kirsten Ebert finds back of the net for UAB

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The UAB women’s soccer team could not overcome a 3-0 first-half deficit and fell to Kennesaw State, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at KSU Soccer Stadium.

Despite the loss, the Blazers (2-5) tallied 16 shots, nine on frame, and out-cornered the Owls, 6-4.

The Owls (4-3) broke the game open in the 30th minute when Brittany Vining found the rebound off a shot fired by Jewella Strickland and deflected by UAB goalkeeper Katie Getzinger. Kennesaw State found the back of the net five minutes later as Nicole Calder headed a corner kick served by Sofia Blanco over the goal line.

Liz Blackburn notched the third goal for Kennesaw State. Blackburn scored on a header off a cross by Blanco, knocking the ball in on the far post in the 41st minute.

UAB Sophomore Kirsten Ebert registered her first goal of the season in the 67th minute. Ebert found the ball in the air after a corner kick drilled by Carolyn Polcari and headed the ball past Owl keeper Mel Hutto. Ebert collected three shots in the contest, all on frame.

Katrina Frost concluded the scoring for Kennesaw State in the 85th minute. Calder passed to Frost, who shot from 15 yards to notch the fourth and final goal.

UAB returns to action with its final game before the C-USA schedule begins on Friday against Ole Miss.  The Blazers and the Rebels will kick off at West Campus Field at 7 p.m. CT.
