Blue Raiders fall to Mean Green
DENTON, Texas – Middle Tennessee completed its opening Sun Belt soccer weekend by dropping a 3-0 decision at North Texas Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Soccer Complex in Denton, Texas.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before North Texas (7-3-1, 2-0 SBC) slipped in its goals during the second 45 minutes, including the final one with just over a minute left.
The first Mean Green tally came at 62:03 when Blue Raider goalkeeper Rebecca Cushing had the ball stolen from her by Nikki Crocco, who then placed it in the back of the net.
North Texas then increased its lead to a pair when Crocco found Michelle Young on a through ball just two minutes later, at 64:05.
The Mean Green closed their scoring with a goal at 88:56 when Shelly Holt fed a long through ball to Ellen Scarfone.
Junior Whitney Jorgenson paced Middle Tennessee (3-7, 0-2 SBC) with two shots, both on goal, while Young and Scarfone’s three attempts apiece led all players.
The Blue Raiders will return to action when they open a four-match conference homestand at 7 p.m. Friday by playing host to Arkansas State at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
