Blugolds' Offense Erupts in 9-0 Win vs. UWS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team scored early and often, defeating UW-Superior 9-0 on a cold evening at Bollinger Field.

Kara Ryan (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) got the scoring started just 1:33 into the game on an unassisted goal. Caroline Henderson (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) kicked off a big night for herself in the seventh minute with her first goal of the night.

In the 40th minute, the Blugolds (6-7-3, 3-3-1) capped off the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal by Audra Zimmer (So.-Appleton, Wis./North). The second half dominated once again by UW-Eau Claire as the snow started to fall lightly to the ground.

Henderson scored back-to-back goals just 1:09 apart to complete her hat trick early in the second half. Mandy Smith (Fr.-Mankato, Minn./East) scored in the 61st minute and Tara Dennehy (So.-Eugene, Ore./Churchill) scored roughly ten minutes later in the 71st minute. Emily Turi (Sr.-North St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul), after assisting on the Dennehy goal, scored just thirty-seven seconds later.

Rachelle Belott (Fr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) scored the final goal of the game in the 79th minute. Paige LeGate (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) finished with three assists and Abby Beinlich (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Janelle Botticelli (Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) each finished with an assist.

The Blugolds put up 37 shots in the game, including 24 on goal. The Yellowjackets finished with just two. Nina Behrenbrinker (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) made one save to pick up the shutout and her sixth win of the season.

Saturday, the Blugolds will play in their final regular season home game of the season. They will play UW-River Falls at 1 p.m. at Bollinger Field. They will wrap up the regular season on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they play Saint Benedict (Minn.) on the road.
