Boston U women beat Dartmouth
October 14, 2010
HANOVER, N.H.. - On Wednesday night, the Boston University women’s soccer team recorded its historic 200th victory as it defeated Dartmouth, 1-0, to extend its winning streak to eight games. Junior Jessica Luscinski scored the game’s lone goal in the 61st minute.
The Terriers outshot the Big Green, 15-6, and put eight shots on target. Luscinski led the way with four shots. The goal was her eighth of the season, marking a career high and moving her into a three-way tie for 10th place among BU’s all-time scoring leaders. Junior Alice Binns made two saves in the second half to help preserve the shutout.
Dartmouth took control of the game in the early going, creating chances in the offensive third and nearly scoring in the 15th minute on a header, however, offsides was called and the game remained scoreless. Halfway into the first stanza, the Terriers began to gain some momentum in the offensive end, making runs on the outside flanks and pressuring the Big Green backline.
In the second half, Luscinski gave BU the definitive 1-0 edge at 60:50 when she unleashed a rocket to the far right post that Dartmouth’s Colleen Hogan tried to get a hand on, but it was too far out of reach.
The game remained close until the last minute when Dartmouth earned back-to-back corner kicks with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, however, the BU backline cleared away the crosses as time expired.
On the defensive end, the Terriers stretched its shutout streak to eight games and 738:02 minutes, which spans nine games and dates back to a 3-0 loss to No. 12 Virginia. They are within one victory of tying a program record for longest winning streak, and two blank sheets away from matching the record for shutouts in a season.
Feldman, a 22-year coaching veteran, currently ranks 13th all-time with 292 career victories and 12th among Division I coaches. BU is also now within one win of tying its longest winning streak of nine games, which it accomplished in the 2008 campaign.
BU will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 17) at Binghamton. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
