Boston University women top Maine- America East

November 7, 2010
BOSTON - Junior Jessica Luscinski scored two goals and graduate student Lisa Kevorkian and freshman Kylie Strom found the back of the net, as the top-seeded Boston University women’s soccer team successfully defended its America East crown for the fourth-straight year - and eighth overall - with a 4-0 victory over sixth-seeded Maine on Saturday afternoon. Luscinski scored a goal in each half, bookending tallies from Kevorkian and Strom, as the trio helped BU break a program record for goals in a season with 49. The previous record had stood for 15 years and was established in the program’s first year as a varsity squad. BU also tied a team record for wins in a season with its 16th of the year. Kevorkian finished the game with one goal and two assists, while Strom had three points on a goal and assist and senior Corie Halasz contributed two assists in the contest. Defensively, BU held a prolific Maine offense to just five shots all game with two on target. Freshmen Kelly King and Andrea Green along with junior Alice Binns maintained BU’s shutout record, extending it to 13 games and 1,187:02 minutes. BU’s 13-game shutout streak is now tied with North Carolina (1989) and Central Michigan (13) for second all-time in NCAA history. Luscinski broke through in the 19th minute of action when she nailed home a rebound off a strike from Kevorkian. Maine’s Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made the initial save off Kevorkian’s shot; however, she was unable to corral the ball and Luscinski came in to slot it home for the go-ahead goal. Kevorkian found the back of the net nine minutes later when she connected on a long cross from Halasz. Later on at the 46:54 mark, Kevorkian and Halasz assisted on Strom’s score as she headed home her third of the season. Luscinski capped off the scoring in the 75th minute when she one-timed a shot into the netting for her 12th goal of the season. Strom was credited with the assist on the play - her league-leading ninth of the season. BU will learn its NCAA tournament fate on Monday afternoon. ESPNU will broadcast the tournament at field at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Terriers will be making their sixth-straight appearance in the NCAAs and ninth overall.
