September 9, 2011

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - The Rosemont College Ravens played their first-ever women's soccer game in the program's history with the Ravens defeating the Valley Forge Christian College Patriots by an 7-0 final.

Junior Amanda Botbyl (Chestnut Hill College/Mays Landing, NJ) cracked open the scoring in the 15th minute off a rebound by sophomore "Shortie" Reppert (Archbishop Ryan/Philadelphia, Pa.) to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead. Reppert scored a goal of her own in the 21st minute to make the score 2-0. First year Stephanie Marks (Franklin Towne Charter/Philadelphia, Pa.) made it 3-0 on a rebound off a corner kick taken by Botbyl to put the Ravens in solid control after the first half was completed.

The Ravens continued to pepper the Patriot goal in the second half, which featured two additional goals from Botbyl, another score from Reppert and a goal from first year Haley Philpott (Haddon Twp./Haddonfield, NJ).

In goal junior Gina Donnelly (Phila. HS for Girls/Horsham, Pa.) and sophomore Gabby Delogu (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) combined on the shutout.

The Ravens outshot the home side by a 38-2 count.

After the game, Coach Tritch said about his team's victory, "I can't put it into words. I'm astonished and I didn't have to push them at all. They did it innately." When asked about his team's defense, Tritch added that "Courtney Whelan (Cumberland Regional/Bridgetown, NJ) was phenomenal holding everything down on the back line."

Rosemont next takes a short trip to Bryn Mawr on Saturday to face the host Owls in a game beginning at 12:00pm.
