PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman Rebecca Brevé (Tegucigalpa, Honduras, American School of Tegucigalpa) scored the game-winning goal 96 seconds into the first overtime period and senior Brittney Smith (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) added a pair of first-half tallies as the Manhattanville women's soccer team escaped GoValiants.com Field with a 3-2 (OT) victory over SUNY Old Westbury in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

The Valiants did not play their best soccer on the afternoon, but it still managed to be enough due to the heroics of Brevé in the 92nd minute. After receiving a pass 25 yards from goal, the freshman got the ball onto her left foot and managed to curl it off the inside of the left post and over the endline for the goal, her second of the year.

The two teams went into overtime tied at two after both squads scored twice in the first half and then battled scorelessly in the second stanza.

Smith opened the scoring 4:14 into the match with a blast past Old Westbury keeper Caitlin Thomas, as she took a through ball from classmate Morgan Rebollal (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) in the right side of the box and fired it into the near side.

The Panthers tied up the score on a goal by Stephanie Maybie off a corner kick, but Smith struck again in the 25th minute to regain the lead for her squad. Senior Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) got the first head to a Panther goal kick and the ball bounced all the way toward the box for Smith, who gained possession and found the net from the top of the 18, giving her a team-leading and career-high five tallies on the year.

Old Westbury tied the match for a second time off a corner kick 1:46 before halftime, as Jasmine Kerby's header at the near post found the net. At the break, Manhattanville posted an 8-4 edge in shots, but Old Westbury's seemingly innocuous 2-1 edge in corner kicks proved to be the equalizer.

Neither team could find the net in the second half of play, as the Valiants kept Old Westbury without a shot. Manhattanville took four shots and also posted an 8-1 edge in corner kicks, but could not get the game-winning strike – at least until overtime, when Brevé finally got the home team their third goal.

For the afternoon, Manhattanville posted a dominating 14-4 edge in total shots, although the shot-on-goal totals were even at four apiece. The Valiants also earned 10 corners to Old Westbury's three.

Freshman Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) moved to 4-4-0 with the win, as she was called upon to make two saves. Thomas (1-6-0) suffered the loss for the Panthers, saving just one of the Valiants' four on-target attempts.

Manhattanville (4-5-0) will look to carry the momentum from Wednesday's win into its Freedom Conference opener on Saturday, as the Valiants host King's (Pa.) at 1 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field. GoValiants.TV will have the live video coverage beginning at 12:50 p.m.
