Bucknell Edges Towson, 1-0
TOWSON, Md. - Bucknell scored a goal in the 70th minute to pick up a 1-0 win over Towson Friday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
Towson (3-3-1) controlled much of the first half, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the break. The Tigers were unable to get organized in the second half, and conceded the game winner after two Bison (3-4-0) got in behind the defense.
"We wasted some good opportunities," said Head Coach Greg Paynter. "We needed to make smarter choices in the attacking third. We had the run of the play in the first half."
The Tigers outshot the Bison 5-2 in the first frame and took five corner kicks to none for Bucknell. However, Towson was unable to convert its chances.
The scoreless draw continued until the 70th minute when Evelyn Nicinski got behind the Tiger defense and looked as if she would take on Towson goalkeeper Erin Quinn one-on-one. However, Brigit Falcon joined Nicinski in the Bison's attacking third and took a pass at the top of the box. Falcon beat Quinn far post for the game winner.
Towson mustered six shots in the second half but only threatened Bucknell's Jessie Ashworth twice on shots from freshman Natalia Pinkney and junior Katlyn Axenfeld.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, September 15 when they host Yale at 1 p.m.
